About the Wine
“Sancerre is home to some of France's tangiest, most thirst-quenching white wines, made from Sauvignon Blanc.” ~Wine Spectator.
Sancerre is an appellation located in the eastern part of the Loire Valley. This appellation produces red and rosé, but it’s undoubtedly the white Sancerre the flagship style of the whole region. Decanter said, “Sancerre is today a Sauvignon Blanc stronghold in France's Loire Valley, known for delicious dry white wines with beautiful texture and refreshing acidity.”
Domaine Jean-Paul Balland is a family-owned estate that excels in crafting exceptional Sauvignon Blanc. Nestled in the beautiful hillsides of Bué, this 48-acre vineyard combines tradition, passion, and innovation. With sustainable farming practices and a transition to organic cultivation, the estate is now expertly managed by Jean-Paul's daughters, Isabelle and Elise.
The unique terroir of Sancerre, with its diverse geological layers, gives this wine its distinctive character. The estate’s vineyards span three main terroirs: clay-limestone "White Lands," stony "Caillottes," and clay-siliceous soils. This complexity contributes to the wine’s full-bodied roundness, floral and fruity notes, and remarkable minerality.
This Sancerre is versatile and pairs beautifully with seafood and spicy Thai cuisine. Its crisp acidity and creamy mouthfeel enhance any meal, making it perfect for both sophisticated dinners and casual gatherings.
The Balland family’s winemaking roots go back to the 17th century. Jean-Paul Balland established the estate in the early 80s, and today, his daughters continue the family tradition with a modern touch.
Tasting Notes
100% Sauvignon Blanc. The wine presents a luminous pale yellow color. Its expressive aromas open gradually, layered with citrus zest and peach blossom, then deepening into ripe white peach, pink grapefruit, touches of honey, and delicate floral hints.
On the palate, it shows vibrancy and generosity, carrying flavors of white peach, pink grapefruit, and quince, lifted by a refined mineral edge. The finish is broad and persistent, leaving behind a refreshing trace of fresh almond.
