About the Wine

The Secret to Living Forever? It's in the Glass.

The real fountain of youth has been hiding in plain sight on sun-drenched Sardinia, one of only five legendary "Blue Zones" where people routinely waltz past 100. While the world frantically searches for longevity hacks, Sardinians have been casually sipping their way to centenarian status for millennia with their beloved daily glass of antioxidant-rich Cannonau.

Sardinia is unique. This amazing Italian island, located in the Mediterranean Sea, is home to some of the rarest wines in the country. Wine Spectator said that this island “has everything it needs to produce great wines.” And that it “offers a chance to dive into a little-known wine region that's really starting to shine.”

This island has some of the Mediterranean's most ancient winemaking histories. Winemaking is in the blood of the Sardinian people. We aren’t joking around - winemaking dates to 1200 B.C. on this island, making it a floating artifact of wine history. Sardinia produces outstanding red wine grapes that keep all wine lovers on their toes with their mysterious origins and delicious character.

Sella & Mosca was founded by Mr.Sella and Mr. Mosca when they arrived in this region and immediately fell in love. Today, this winery is one of the most renowned and biggest estates on the whole island.

Sella e Mosca’s huge 1,600-acre vineyards -the second largest estate on the island, and one of the largest in Europe,- are located in some of the top appellations on the island, and they’re planted with local grapes like Vermentino, Torbato, and Cannonau, and international grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon.

Sella e Mosca’s 14-acre beautiful estate is placed in an outstanding terroir composed of sandy and rich soils, and it's very close to the beach. The result is wines with soft tannins, amazing structure, and fine and fresh acidity.

La Cala is the name of one of the loveliest stretches of coastline, which due to its particular violet hues, is also known as La Cala Viola. La Cala comes from Alghero, with soil rich in lime and clay and in an area strongly influenced by the sweeping salt-laden mistral winds. These elements, together with the vineyards’ location and exposure, enhance the savory and fruity expressions of this 2024 Vermentino.

Tasting Notes

100% Vermentino.

La Cala bursts with bright citrus, juicy tropical fruit, and delicate white flowers, all lifted by a clean mineral edge and a whisper of Mediterranean herbs. Crisp acidity snaps into a silky, balanced palate, finishing long, fresh, and quietly irresistible.

Critical Reviews

Fresh and crisp, with aromas of sliced apples, white flowers, crushed stones and lime zest. Medium-bodied with vivid acidity, it has a crunchy and refreshing feel on the finish. Sustainable. Drink now. ~ 90 James Suckling
