About the Wine

This is what happens when one of Napa Valley's most celebrated winemakers turns her attention to rosé. Heidi Barrett — the woman Robert Parker dubbed "the first lady of wine" — is the same winemaker behind Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle's Maya, and the Amuse Bouche flagship red. Two perfect 100-point Parker scores. A single bottle that once sold for $500,000 at auction. When she makes a rosé, it's not an afterthought.

For the 2025 Prêt à Boire, Heidi teams up with daughter Chelsea Barrett for a Provençal-inspired pink from estate Grenache and Syrah in the east Rutherford hills. The Barrett family runs deep in Napa — Heidi's husband Bo is the winemaker at Chateau Montelena, the winery that won the 1976 Judgment of Paris. This is California wine royalty, and the rosé reflects that pedigree: pale salmon in the glass, layers of strawberry, guava, and grapefruit on the nose, and a finish that balances crisp acidity with floral complexity.

With only 400 six-packs produced, this is one of the most limited rosés in California — and consistently one of the highest rated. The name means "ready to drink," and it delivers on that promise immediately. If you've been drinking Whispering Angel or Miraval and want to know what a Napa cult producer can do with rosé, this is your bottle.

Tasting Notes

66% Grenache, 34% Syrah. Pale salmon hue. The nose opens with fresh strawberry, guava, and pink grapefruit, layered with delicate rose petal and floral notes. On the palate, cranberry, chalk, mint, and white pepper are finely sculpted, with refreshing acidity balanced by subtle fruit sweetness. The finish is crisp, clean, and lingering — a rosé built for the table as much as the terrace.

Critical Reviews

The Rosé Prêt à Boire is a brisk Rosé to drink now and over the next year or two. Cranberry, chalk, mint and white pepper are all finely sculpted. This Rose is a very versatile wine; it can be enjoyed as an aperitif or paired with lighter fare. ~91 Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
