About the Wine

Pax Mahle landed in Napa Valley in 1997. Following a stint as a wine buyer at Dean & Deluca, he started producing wines. He particularly focused on cool climate Syrah. With the launch of Wind Gap in Petaluma, he began to focus on lower alcohol Pinot Noir sourced from organic and low-intervention vineyards.

Sourced from a vineyard that was planted in 1914, this low yielding, dry farmed Grenache is history in a bottle. Medium bodied, unfiltered with a light touch, the wine shows incredible restraint. The wine is lean and charming with lower alcohol.

The 2014 Grenache Old-Vine Sceales Vineyard is another delicious wine from Wind Gap. Aromatically lifted and precise, the 2014 is laced with the essence of red cherry, cranberry and mint all with an extra kick of brightness from the 100% whole clusters and bright acidity that is such a Wind Gap signature, something this old-vine, sandy site seems very well suited to. The brisk, polished finish only adds to the wine's considerable appeal. In 2014, Mahle increased the percentage of neutral oak over cement, as he observed that previous vintages done in cement remained austere, even with time in bottle. ~92VM
