About the Wine

"Ripe and balanced, this rich, structured, mostly Merlot wine offers fine tannins and layers of berry fruits. Concentrated and dense, the wine will develop well, with plenty of fruitiness as well as a firm structure. Drink this Vignobles Bayle Carreau wine from 2022." ~ Wine Enthusiast.

Bayle-Carreau tells the story of two well-known Bordeaux families, the Bayles, and the Carreaus, who, thanks to their love and passion for wine, joined forces and created an empire.

The Carreau family embarked on their wine journey in 1858 when Antoine Carreau purchased a beautiful 42-acre vineyard called Château Barbé. And on the other hand, the Bayle family joined the wine biz in 1910, when they acquired Château la Carelle, a picturesque 37-acre estate. It was in 1952 when André Bayle marries Claude Carreau, and so, the kingdom was born. Today, this bi-family-owned company owns 5 different Châteaux located in the best regions of Côtes de Bourg et Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux.

Current owner, Xavier Carreau says “The constant pursuit of perfection and innovation are the foundations of the Bayle-Carreau. For five generations, we have honed our skills as winegrowers and winemakers, combining all our talents to create something unique. Day after day, we strive to produce top-notch wines.”

Bayle-Carreau's mantra is “Sustainability is at the center of all operational decisions.” The majestic 300-acre vineyard is managed with sustainable practices and they have achieved two certifications: High Environmental Value (HVE) and Terra Vitis.

One of Bayle-Carreau's estates is Pardaillan, a surreal Château built in the early 17th century, that belonged to a French nobleman, Louis d’Aulède de Pardaillan. This 37-acre estate is situated on one of the most beautiful hillsides of Blaye, with clay-limestone soils and clayey and rocky subsoil, which is ideal for Merlot to thrive, resulting in strong, deep, elegant wines.

Strong, deep, and elegant are the perfect words to describe the 2016 Chateau Pardaillan. A wine that comes from an outstanding year for the Right Bank. This vintage was awarded 98 points by Vinous Media, stating that "the 2016s are absolutely remarkable wines. The word that comes to mind, unfortunately so often overused, is balance. Excellence is highly correlated with the quality of the site. The 2016 Right Bank reds are remarkably polished and sensual."

Aging: 12 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: 90 % Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5 % Malbec. This wine is beautifully balanced. It has an intense ruby-red color and the fruity bouquet also shows subtle, well-integrated oak. Thanks to its geographical situation, Château Pardaillan was one of the first great wines of Blaye.
