About the Wine

What can we expect from a region where the main gastronomic products are wine, cheese, and truffles? Pure perfection and a perfect destination for foodies.

The Elvio Cogno winery is located in Langhe, in the province of Cuneo within the Piedmont region. If you are a wine lover, you have surely heard of Piedmont, as it is home to some of the most recognized appellations worldwide such as Barolo, Barbaresco, and Barbera d’Alba.

The Langhe is an area of protected hills and recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site. It is also where excellent, elegant, and balanced wines are produced.

The Cogno family project that began with the idea of making “simple” wines to offer in their restaurant “Ristorante dell'Angelo in La Morra”, soon became one of the best vineyards in the area and the main wine producer of Langhe. Today, Elvio Cogno produces excellent quality wines that reflect the potential and power of the Langhe area. Cogno is considered a "hero producer" for its work to resurrect the ancient Nascetta grapes and white wine.

The vineyard of more than 25 acres is managed in an ecological way. In addition, the love and respect for the land that they have led them to begin experiencing organic viticulture.

2017 Elvio Cogno Montegrilli Nebbiolo Langhe is an intriguing wine. With every sip you will be immediately transported to the terroir of Piedmont.A Nebbiolo in every sense of the word, and what a pleasure to drink! This wine is for 8 months in stainless steel.

Tasting Notes:100% Nebbiolo. Deep ruby red in color with a slight orange edge. Harmonious well-balanced aroma, a pleasant blend of floral, fruity, and soft spicy scents, with a sapid finish of rose and violet. Fresh lively bouquet with harmonious tannins, alcohol, and balanced acidity. Soft, elegant, and full-bodied with a very long aftertaste. Redolent of freshly macerated red berries, raspberry, and redcurrant. Pair this wine with robust roasts and hard, soft, or well-aged cheeses.

Reviews

Bright, full ruby. Alluring high-pitched perfume of blackberry and violet. Wonderfully juicy and light on its feet, with a black-peppery tang and brisk acidity to its penetrating flavors of blackberry, violet, and salty soil-driven minerality. Very 2016 in style, and with a pH under 3.5, this does not taste or feel like an Argentine wine. It needs more time in bottle to gain in weight and sweetness but has everything it needs to evolve slowly and gracefully. (made in concrete and aged for a year in 500-liter oak barrels, 30% new, then another year in concrete) ~91 Vinous Media.
