About the Wine

“Barolo is more than one of the world's great wines and a partner to one of Italy's most varied and refined cuisines. It's an evocative landscape of gently rolling hills covered by a quilt of vineyards and topped by medieval villages with winding cobblestone streets and views to the Alps.” ~ Wine Spectator.

Mirafiori Winery is a 300-acre Bionatural Reserve in the beautiful Serralunga d'Alba, at the core of the renowned Barolo region, right there with iconic producers like Giacomo Conterno or Roberto Voerzio, where Barolos can often exceed $300.

It dates back to over 160. In the 19th century, a nobleman with a modern vision, Emanuele Alberto Guerrieri, Count of Mirafiore, son of Italy's first King, embarked on a remarkable wine journey. He founded Casa E. di Mirafiore, a winery that aimed not only to craft exceptional wines but also to create a thriving village. This village, a real community, housed 250 people, all employed by the winery. Even today, 15 families call it home. Every corner of this place tells a unique story, making it Italy's first storytelling village

Casa E. di Mirafiore has always been ahead of its time. Since 2018, it has proudly held the title of an Organic Estate. With vineyards in the Barolo and Fontanafredda subzones, it exclusively produces wines from its estate-owned vineyards, including the renowned Barolo DOCG crus, Lazzarito and Paiagallo.

2016 was an epic year for this region. Vinous Media blessed this vintage with a 98 point review and sai: "Two thousand sixteen is an extraordinary vintage full of tremendous wines. Perhaps more importantly, average quality is exceptionally high."

This Barolo is crafted from carefully selected grapes cultivated in estate vineyards located in the villages of Serralunga d'Alba and Barolo.

Aging: 5 years of maturing before it is released. 3 in medium and big size oak barrels, 1 year in large concrete tanks, and 1 in bottle.

Tasting Notes: 100% Nebbiolo. Deep garnet red color, while its intense, clear-cut nose hints at spicy aromas like wormwood, then cocoa, mint, black cherry, leather and dried mushrooms. Its sweet, velvety tannins blend nicely on its smooth taste, helping to ensure a very long finish, warm and fascinating.

Reviews

Love the aromas of dried strawberries, dust and hazelnuts, which turn to flowers. It’s full-bodied with firm, silky tannins. Polished and creamy with a beautiful, compact finish. Pretty texture. Better after 2022. ~95 James Suckling

Delicate aromas of forest berry, new leather, violet and camphor waft out of the glass. Elegantly structured, the savory palate doles out strawberry compote, crushed raspberry and star anise alongside bright acidity. It's full bodied but the lithe tannins and the freshness give it an almost weightless feel. Drink through 2026. ~93 Wine Enthusiast

Sweet and fragrant, it shows a thin, slightly shy profile reminiscent of rose petals, white chocolate and rosemary. Medium body, soft tannins of notable workmanship and a harmonious and balanced finish. The quality of the fruit is beautiful. Drink now. ~93 WinesCritic.com

Intensive bright ruby red. Aromas of rich strawberries and pickled cherries, hints of pepper and savoury leather notes. On the palate, rich blackberry fruit, savoury tones, grippy tannins, and a slightly salty finish. Will benefit from a few years further bottle aging. ~90 Falstaff
