About the Wine

Gigondas is the female counterpart to Chateauneuf-du-Pape. This wine is the best alternative for those that love Chateauneuf-du-Pape but don't want to break the bank. Gigondas is the garden of Chateauneuf-du-Pape's workshop, displaying elegance and personality

Domaine Palon is located in the heart of the Southern Rhone, just at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail range. The estate compounds 28 acres that extend through the Gigondas and Vacqueyras appellations. These vineyards are planted with the emblematic GMS varietals: Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah.

In 2018, the Deltin family acquire this Domaine, and since then, they have been betting on the high quality of the wines, making important improvements to both the vineyard and the cellar. They implemented respectful viticulture and started the conversion to biological agriculture. Deltin’s quality standards led them to always prioritize quality over quantity. Their goal is to “bring their Vacqueyras and Gigondas wines to excellence, maintaining a family business on a human scale, respectful of the environment.”

2020 is looking to be a great year for the Gigondas appellation. Wine Spectator said, "there are plenty of wines with energy and verve that will offer balanced and refreshing early drinking."

Aging: 6 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre. This wine has a pretty garnet color. The nose is rich and expressive, with notes of ripe red fruit, cherry, and plum, mixed with spices, licorice, pepper, and notes of garrigue. The palate is very elegant, with fine and coated tannins, a balanced mid-palate, and a lingering finish.
