About the Wine

We're all busy these days, so we'll cut straight to it. Based on 25 years of buying and selling wine, we think any time you can snag 94pt rated Margaux under $40, load up the cart!

Nestled in the heart of the magnificent Margaux appellation, Château Grand Tayac has a storied history dating back to 1962 when its old vines were first planted. Today, this winery, under the skillful stewardship of Alain Roses since 2005, stands as a testament to the timeless artistry of Bordeaux winemaking.

Picture this: A charming 19th-century post-house, nestled in the quaint hamlet known as "Le Grand Soussans," where the secrets of winemaking have been passed down through the generations. The vineyard's gravelly slope in Tayac cradles those ancient vines, and it's here that the magic truly begins.

But what sets Margaux wines apart? The answer lies in centuries of acclaim, tracing all the way back to Gallo-Roman times. It's the terroir, the micro-climate blessed by the nearby Gironde estuary, and the exceptional natural drainage that work in harmony to create wines of unparalleled excellence.

Now, here's where the magic truly happens. The man behind these wines? No other than Rockstar Éric Boissenot, who also consults at forty of the 1855 Classified estates including Lafite, Margaux, Latour, Mouton Rothschild, Leoville Las Cases, and Ducru Beaucaillou.

Aging:

12-14 months in French oak barrels (40% new)

Reviews

The 2019 Château Grand Tayac is fantastic. It opens to inviting aromas of ripe cherries, blackberries, violets, tobacco, graphite, minerals and spices all coming together in the glass. The palate this possesses a medium-plus body, which is beautifully structured with remarkable overall focus and balance as everything expands on to the gorgeous finish. A simply outstanding showing from renowned oenologist Eric Boissenot, which is delightful in its youth, but should also have a wonderful future ahead. ~94 International Wine Report.

Made from 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, this big wine has both richness and structure. The core of firm, dry tannins, balances generous blackberry flavors. It should age well. ~93 Wine Enthusiast

A fragrant nose of blackberries, dark plums, dried herbs, praline and spice box. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Layered and silky with polished character. Firm finish. Drink from 2025. ~92 James Suckling
