About the Wine

The brains and brawn behind Guarachi Family Wines' production are Julio, Alex, and Julian. Hailing from the South of the United States, each member of this Latin American team brings a unique and extraordinary story that embodies "The American Dream."

Alex Guarachi, the owner of Guarachi Family Wines and founder of Guarachi Wine Partners, is an inspiring figure. Originally from Chile, he came to the United States on a soccer scholarship. When an injury dashed his athletic dreams, Alex returned to his roots to discover new aspirations in the world of wine. Living in the vicinity of Napa Valley and Sonoma County, where South American wines were once unknown, Alex seized the opportunity to introduce his country's remarkable wines to the American market. The path to success wasn't easy, but with unwavering determination, he transformed his company into a leading importer, marketer, and producer of fine wines.

In 2007, after 22 years of building wine brands, Alex poured his passion into his own high-end boutique label, Guarachi Family Wines. This winery features exquisitely crafted and limited bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley and Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast. With the acquisition of prestigious estate vineyards like Meadowrock in Atlas Peak and Sun Chase in Sonoma Coast Petaluma Wind Gap,Guarachi Family Wines expanded its horizons even further.

To ensure every bottle bears the mark of elegance, Alex enlisted his close friend and internationally renowned winemaking consultant, Julian Gonzalez. With a wealth of experience, including roles at Paul Hobbs Consulting and esteemed wineries in Argentina and Napa Valley, Julian has elevated Guarachi Family Wines to new heights.

The 2017 Guarachi Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is a true masterpiece from the Atlas Peak estate vineyard.Nestled at elevations ranging from 1,400 to 1,760 feet, this vineyard showcases the best of Atlas Peak with volcanic soils and jagged, mountainous terrain. Basking in abundant sunlight during the day and benefiting from the cooling evening breeze, the fruit from this vineyard is highly sought after by prestigious wineries in Napa Valley (like Hess Collection, Altas Peak, Alpha Omega, and Stagecoach, among others).  The resulting wine is an extraordinary expression of California's terroir – bold, rich, and unforgettable.

Aging: 20 months in 100% French oak

Tasting Notes100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Simply put, this Cabernet Sauvignon is dark, rich, and deep. Immediately, the palate is exposed to tobacco, leather, currant, and dark-berry reserves. Floral tones follow as the wine's flavor continues to linger.

Reviews

~97 Tasting Panel Magazine

After 20 months in French oak, this wine remains youthful and tightly wound, showing notes of dark chocolate, tobacco leaf, cigar and blueberry cobbler. Firm, prominent tannins and a mineral component of crushed rock give it length and added complexity. Enjoy from 2027–2032. ~93 Wine Enthusiast

Blackcurrant, clove, chocolate and black-tea aromas. It’s medium-bodied with sleek, fine-grained tannins. Fresh and flavorful with an earthy, mineral touch. Better from 2021. ~92 James Suckling
