In 2003, the visionary Enrique Foster invited Mauricio Lorca to join him on an extraordinary journey, guided by their shared love for Malbec. Mauricio Lorca, a brilliant winemaker, took the reins of production, and the rest is history. Under their watchful eyes, the winery in Perdriel, Luján de Cuyo, has become a hub of innovation, embracing new winemaking techniques and sustainable practices.

As one steps into Mauricio Lorca's winery in Perdriel, they are greeted by lush Malbec vines, a testament to the deep-rooted passion for this noble grape. The winery itself blends modern aesthetics with classical charm, surrounded by enchanting gardens designed by a landscape artist. The backdrop? The majestic Andes Mountain range, a paradise on earth.

The winery holds ISO 22.000 certification for its production process. Their organic wines adhere to the highest organic production standards, and their sustainability efforts have earned recognition both nationally and internationally.

Now, the Rockstar behind the wines: Mauricio Lorca, a true winemaking prodigy, has an illustrious career that began under the tutelage of legendary figures like Nicolas Catena, Paul Hobbs, and José Galante (akathe father of modern enology in Argentina). At just 24 years old, he became the head winemaker of Luigi Bosca. His global adventures in the world's finest vineyards reinforced his belief in Mendoza's potential to create world-class wines.

And so, the Inspirado Red Blend was born. This wine is a perfect example of how blending different grape varieties can create something truly remarkable. If you appreciate red blends and pay attention to the details, you'll be able to taste the unique characteristics of each grape in this exceptional blend.

Production of this wine is extremely limited. Only the best grapes from the harvest are carefully selected, one cluster at a time, to ensure the highest quality. Mauricio Lorca's approach is all about demonstrating that quality comes from expert vineyard management and modern winemaking techniques that faithfully express the natural flavors of the grapes. 

The name "Inspirado" says it all – it's an inspired creation that captures the essence of the grapes that make Mendoza famous.

These grapes come from the Los Altepes Vineyard, located in Los Árboles, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, at an impressive altitude of 1,250 meters above sea level.

Aging: 18 months in new French (85%) and American (15%) oak barrels. 

Tasting Notes: 70% Malbec, 20% Syrah 10% Petit Verdot. It dazzles with an attractive deep red color, accented by violet hues. On the nose, it's expressive, fruity, and youthful, blending mint and pepper notes with red fruits like raspberries. On the palate, its great fruit potential shines through, perfectly reflecting its origins. This is a delicate, complex, and masterfully crafted wine, leaving a smooth, elegant, and lingering finish.

The 2007 Gran Lorca Poetico is a special cluster selection: a blend of 70% Malbec, 20% Syrah and 10% Petit Verdot aged for 12 months in French and American oak. The nose is very expressive; the oak neatly enmeshed with the vibrant black cherry, Dorset plum and black olive aromas that are very well-defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a saline note on the entry and indeed, there is something reminiscent of the sea throughout this wine. It is very crisp and taut with black fruit that sings on the finish. Excellent. 

When you dive into the deep end of a country’s wines and taste comprehensively from A to Z, you quickly ascertain trends and styles, the convergence of techniques that can render wines rather predictable and, occasionally, formulaic. Therefore, when a winemaker breaks from the norm and furrows their own path, it tends to stick out like a sore thumb, and that is exactly what happened when tasted Enrique Foster’s winemaker, Mauricio Lorca’s personal range of wines. Here was a winemaker patently questioning the modus operandi, not looking over the boundary to mimic what others are doing, but practicing what he sees fit – unafraid to take risks. His vines are located in Vistaflores in the Uco Valley, planted in 1999 at 7,000 plants per hectare, orientated from northwest to southeast in order to enhance the morning sunlight. He eschews bleeding of tanks and opined that oak is used excessively in Argentina and risks standardizing wines, a view that I concur with. Testament to that fact is his complete avoidance of oak apropos his “Opalo” range of wines, using concrete to mature the wine over nine months. The results speak for themselves – these are individual, characterful, delicious wines that express their terroirs with clarity and style. I am not saying they are perfect and not all of them are fault free. But they are simply wines you want to drink – and then recharge your glass. ~93 Wine Advocate
