About the Wine

“This is one of the longest-established estate bottling Domaines in the Côte D’Or. And one of the very best of all.” ~Decanter

Nestled between the villages of Morey-Saint-Denis to the north and Vougeot to the south, the charming village of Chambolle-Musigny holds the distinction of being the Côte d’Or's smallest AOC since 1882. The limestone-rich soils of this region play a pivotal role in crafting wines known for their silky, supple character. With vines planted in 1972, each bottle tells a story of tradition, terroir, and timeless elegance.

In 1924, Georges Roumier, a humble farmer from Morvan, sealed his fate by marrying Geneviève Quanquin from Chambolle-Musigny. Little did he know, this union would sow the seeds of what would become the esteemed Domaine Georges Roumier.Geneviève's dowry of vineyards formed the cornerstone of the domaine, which now proudly boasts 29 acres of vines spread across 11 different appellations.

Fast forward to today, and the Domaine is in the capable hands of Christophe Roumier, a talented winemaker whose talent knows no bounds. Trained at Dijon University's Faculty of Oenology, Christophe's journey to winemaking stardom was marked by a dedication to excellence and a deep respect for the land.

Christophe is a man who speaks the language of the earth, preferring a gentle touch in winemaking that allows each vineyard to reveal its unique character. His commitment to sustainable practices is unwavering, with a focus on natural fermentations and minimal intervention in the cellar.

At Domaine Georges & Christophe Roumier, the winemaking philosophy is simple yet profound: let the terroir speak. Christophe believes that great wine is a reflection of its origins, with structure and texture taking precedence over fruit. With meticulous attention to detail, he crafts wines of finesse and elegance that are built to stand the test of time.

The Abbaye de la Bussière vineyard, acquired by the Roumier family in 1953, boasts a rich history dating back to the 12th century when it was first planted by Cistercian monks. This Monopole parcel, encompassing an abbey, underground cellar, and chapel, sits atop a rocky dome, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding red clay fields. With vines planted in 1977, it stands as a testament to Burgundian tradition and the enduring legacy of Domaine G. Roumier.

2019 was an incredible year for Burgundy, this is a vintage to stock up on, a vintage to collect, and a vintage to enjoy. It was awarded a 98-point review and called a "hedonistic" vintage, and stated to be "perhaps rival 1865, the greatest vintage of all."

Aging: 15 to 18 months in 25–35% new French oak barrels

Tasting Notes: 100% Pinot Noir. This red Burgundy, with complex, persistent flavors supported by solid tannins, can be enjoyed in its youth but it will reward the patient ones. Solid, elegant and luxurious.
