About the Wine

A Cru born in 1974 and produced only in the best years with Sangiovese grapes from the homonymous vineyard 400m above sea level. An intense wine with grand aromas and a long, noble persistence. Montesodi has always been considered the best expression of Sangiovese del Castello Nipozzano. The Montesodi is one of the most important wines from the Frescobaldi family and receives critical praise year in and year out. Find out why this bottle has the critics buzzing!

The history of the Frescobaldi family starts over a thousand years ago and is closely connected with the history of Tuscany. At the high point of medieval Florence, the Frescobaldi's spread their influence as bankers, earning the title of treasures to the English crown. A little later, with the flowering of the Renaissance, they became patrons of major works in Florence, such as the construction of the Santa Trinita bridge and the Basilica of Santo Spirito. Today the Frescobaldi empire is one of the most important wine producers in all of Itlay!

Aging: 18 months in large Austrian and French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: Red Wine. 100% Sangiovese. The wine is a bright ruby red, with garnet reflections. The nose appears intense and fresh with mineral and citrus scents, cherry blossoms, and violet. The palate is persistent, mineral-driven, with a toasted and silky tannic structure. Notes of sour cherry, hints of candied cedar, orange, coffee powder, fruity notes of white-paste stone fruits. The finish? Everlasting. Outstanding with grilled meats, and the ideal partner to bistecca alla fiorentina.

Reviews

Dried red plums, red licorice, cedar, and dried spices make for a very elegant nose. Full body tightly wound tannins and a spicy, edgy finish. Good clarity and focus. Drink now or hold. ~93 James Suckling

Gambero Rosso - 3 Bicchieri

A direct, juicy style, revealing cherry, red licorice, earth, and thyme flavors. Lean and dense, with a firm finish. Shows fine balance overall. Sangiovese. Drink now through 2027. ~91 Wine Spectator
