Tenimenti Angelini, (also known as Angelini Wines & Estates) is a very important wine producer that owns several recognized estates throughout central and northern Italy, including Bertani in Veneto, Val di Suga in Montalcino, Tenuta Trerose in Montepulciano, Tenuta Puiatti in Friuli, and Tenuta San Leonino in Castellina in Chianti.
The company's history began in the Marche region, where Francesco Angelini, a pharmaceutical industrialist bought Fazi Battaglia, (a local wine producer that was famous for its Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico wine) in 1949.
The estate has a total of six wineries and owns 1100 acres of vineyards, producing approximately 1.5 million bottles of wine each year. The family also owns pharmaceuticals, skin care, perfumery, and consumer goods.
San Leonino is a historical estate that dates to 1043. This winery, located in Castellina in Chianti, covers around 250 acres, where 128 of which are planted with vineyards. San Leonino is situated between Florence and Siena, a region that combines different types of soils (clay and alberese) with the continental climate of Florence, and the milder one south of Siena.
This combination of different types of soil, the presence of lakes and streams, and the unique soil and microclimate of the area make this part of Chianti Classico particularly special, resulting in wines with great elegance and extraordinary.
Aging: 18 months in Slovenian oak barrels.
Tasting Notes: 100% Sangiovese. A bright ruby color. Beautiful aromas of cherries, and figs. The palate is rich and elegant, with amazing drinkability. Ideal to pair with cured meats, pasta with ragù sauce, and medium-mature cheese.
