About the Red Wine

Raised by Wolves is a creation of Adam Mason. If you’re a South African wine aficionado or you just simply like to discover new wine regions and taste new gems, I bet you must be familiarized with his work. Adam is a shining star, and one of the most important winemakers in the country. He’s the current winemaker at Mulderbosch. To quote Wine Spectator, “Mulderbosch is an iconic brand,” and for many years now, this winery has been producing outstanding, award-winning, premium wines.

Adam has a long history in the world of wine in different (and some of them, even exotic) countries, including Zimbabwe, Australia, and France. Raised by Wolves is the magical result of Adam’s experiences, learnings, hardworking and passion acquired in these different regions.

2017 Raised by Wolves Old School is a work of art, and like all good art, production is extremely limited. This wine is made from carefully selected grapes from unique and rare vineyards in Cape Town. Adam decided to let the glorious grape and terroir speak for themselves, and that's the reason this wine is made with minimal intervention (but maximum quality).

Old School is 75% Cinsault and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon. This rare and unique blend is hardly found outside South Africa. This blend pays tribute to the good old South African days, where the Cinsault was the queen of red blends.

Aging: 18 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting notes: 75% Cinsaut, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon. Fresh, soft, and rounded on the palate. Extremely well-balanced and elegant. It's brambly, dark berry with intriguing toast, and Med. herbs. Ending with a very savory finish. Pair this wine with roasted meats or portobello, or a BBQ burger.

Reviews

The Cabernet component of the old school red, with 300 cases produced from vines planted in the 1980s. Rich, expressive nose of mulberry, cassis, blackberry, and mocha oak spice. The palate shows power and concentration, classical grip, and fabulous purity and berry freshness.Lovely focus. ~91-93 Points, Greg Sherwood MW.

~92 Points, Tim Atkin.
