Bayle-Carreau tells the story of two well-known Bordeaux families, the Bayles, and the Carreaus, who, thanks to their love and passion for wine, joined forces and created an empire.
The Carreau family embarked on their wine journey in 1858 when Antoine Carreau purchased a beautiful 42-acre vineyard called Château Barbé. And on the other hand, the Bayle family joined the wine biz in 1910, when they acquired Château la Carelle, a picturesque 37-acre estate. It was in 1952 when André Bayle marries Claude Carreau, and so, the kingdom was born. Today, this bi-family-owned company owns 5 different Châteaux located in the best regions of Côtes de Bourg et Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux.
Current owner, Xavier Carreau says “The constant pursuit of perfection and innovation are the foundations of the Bayle-Carreau. For five generations, we have honed our skills as winegrowers and winemakers, combining all our talents to create something unique. Day after day, we strive to produce top-notch wines.”
Bayle-Carreau's mantra is “Sustainability is at the center of all operational decisions.” The majestic 300-acre vineyard is managed with sustainable practices and they have achieved two certifications: High Environmental Value (HVE) and Terra Vitis.
One of Bayle-Carreau's estates is Eyquem, a beautiful 17th-century Château. This estate has its first record of producing wines since Roman times. This enchanting place was a summer residence for Louis d'Eyquem, a family member of the famous philosopher Michel Eyquem de Montaigne. Eyquem is an amazing value Bordeaux that comes from an outstanding vintage, one that was awarded 96 points by Vinous Media, who stated that "It is a very strong vintage that falls just short of being truly epic."
Aging: 12 months in French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes: 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec. Rich, elegant, and distinguished wine. Its deep purple color and its powerful bouquet with a note of violet make it a racy wine and excellent aging potential, it is particularly appreciated by connoisseurs. Pair this wine with grilled red meats, strong-tasting fish, and cheeses. It also goes beautifully with Asian and Mexican cuisine.
