For lovers and collectors of the world's best white wines, it’s time to welcome Soave back to your cellars. ~ Eric Guido, Vinous Media
If you’ve been hearing lots of buzz about Soave recently, it’s because small producers like Inama have been carefully nurturing the vineyards in the region. Modern Soave’s quality reflects the care and intent of these producers. Many of the region’s wines are also a fantastic value, and the 2020 Inama 'Vigneti di Foscarino' Soave Classico is one of them.
Inama winery dates back to 1948, when founder Giuseppe Inama started to work as a winemaker, and soon bought his first parcels in Monte Foscarino. Today, after more than 70 years, Guiseppe’s goal remains the same “to produce unique and classic wines that truly represent the greatness of the land.” Inama’s vineyards are located in the Veneto area, in Colli Berici, and in Soave Classico.
Soave Classico dates back to Roman times. This DOC was established in 1968, and as a matter of fact, it was the first white wine DOC in Italy, Soave’s hillside vineyards sit southwest of Venice in Veneto. The soils are rich with clay and volcanic minerals that come from the volcanic hills above the region. All these peculiar terroir conditions, make this place home to one of the most cherished white wines in all of Italy. To learn more about this amazing grape and the wines from it, click here.
"Foscarino is our interpretation of the Soave Classico looking at history, which recalls ancestral traditions to re-propose forgotten aromas."
Aging: Fermentation in old barriques. After, it remains on the lees for 6 months with batonnage every 6 weeks. This is followed by another 6 months of aging in steel vats on fine lees.
Tasting Notes: 100% Garganega, 40-year-old vines. This is an absolutely superb white wine. Complex and elegant. It opens fresh and deep mineral aromas of wildflowers (elderberry, iris, chamomile). On the palate, it's rich, complex, and multidimensional with an almond aftertaste. Over time, these notes are transformed into even more complex aromas of pollen and dried flowers.
Very ripe, yet discreet and so mineral and punchy, almost like smelling a wet rock. Bone-dry and crisp, yet elegant and textured. Really attractive and subtle with a linear, mineral finish. ~95 James Suckling
Extremely captivating, it shows notes of lemon blossom, rose petals, geraniums, hawthorn, white pepper and lime peel. Full, creamy and enveloping body shows complexity and dense structure and a truly progressive and linear finish. Drink now or grow old. ~94 WinesCritic.com
Intense straw yellow with golden reflections. Complex, deep nose with wildflowers, chamomile and elderflower, with hints of peach and sweet spices. Soft, balanced mouthfeel where the sweet almond accompanies a long, persistent and juicy finish. ~93 Falstaff
Spring blossom, yellow stone fruit and toasted hazelnut aromas come to the forefront. Linear and elegant, the polished palate offers dried apricot, yellow pear and bitter almond before closing on a tangy mineral note suggesting saline ~92 Wine Enthusiast
The Inama 2020 Soave Classico Foscarino has a savory bouquet with dried thyme and a touch of balsam herb that gives a 360° view onto the versatile Garganega grape. Aged in stainless steel with some oak, this wine offers primary aromas of citrus, apricot and Golden Delicious apple. Compared to some of the other releases in this portfolio, this expression from 2020 is slightly thinner in terms of mouthfeel and texture. ~91 Wine Advocate
