About The Wine

Founded 1811. Still in family hands.

In 1811, a 24-year-old named Charles Gabriel de Cazanove — born into a long line of master glassmakers — founded his own Champagne house in Avize, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. Within a generation the house was pouring for presidents of the Third Republic. By 1902, King Edward VII was importing Charles de Cazanove under his own personal label.

Two centuries later, the house sits in Reims under the Rapeneau family — one of the last significant Champagne producers with no outside shareholders. No luxury conglomerate, no investment group, no holdings outside the region. Christophe Rapeneau has served as chef de cave since 1983, more than forty years shaping a single, consistent house style, and the family farms roughly 800 hectares of vineyard, a scale almost no house can match.

The Rosé is built the classic Champenois way: still red wine from the house's own Pinot Noir, blended into the base cuvée until the color comes right. That method is the reason this wine reads the way it does — a true salmon pink, not a blush, and real red-fruit weight behind the bubbles. Candied strawberry and rose petal on the nose. Full and round across the palate, with the substance to sit down at the table rather than just open the evening. Pour it with salmon, with shellfish, with a plate of brie and stone fruit.

Ancestral tradition, a family cellar, and chalk-aged patience. This is the rosé Champagne you pour when you want the pedigree without the label tax.

TASTING NOTES

What's in the Glass

PAIRS WITH

Mouthfeel & Acidity

40% Chardonnay 30% Pinot noir 30% Meunier. Champagne Vielle France Brut by Charles de Cazanove is unique in style and design, reminiscent of centuries-old tradition with the original Champagne bell-shaped bottle. A balance of citrus fruit and minerality give this wine a fresh, elegant nose. Powerful and fruity on the palate with delicate pear and chalk aromas leading to an elegant finish.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

An expressive rosé, offering a pleasing juiciness to the spiced notes of ripe cherry, black currant, pastry, ground clove, and blanched almond. This is finely textured, with a minerally base note and a lingering finish. Drink now through 2018. 10,000 cases made.  ~92WS

Engaging ripe citrus and pineapple, supported by bright acidity and creaminess. Hint of purity in the fruit and some biscuit notes.~90 Decanter
