From the heart of Burgundy’s Morey St. Denis comes a Pinot Noir that defies all expectations. Made from 70 year-old vines, the straddles the village AOC and the premier cru Clos de Ormes vineyard. The vineyard sits just off the Route des Grands Crus and very near the Grand Cru vineyards of Clos de la Roche and Charmes-Chambertin. The Lecheneaut brothers coax terroir into their Pinot Noir, no matter what challenges each vintage brings. In 2007, the result was clean flavors of fresh cherry and strawberry, lifted up by aromas of crushed violets and rose with an earthy, mushroomy finish. These wines hit a sweet spot to drink and enjoy at 6-8 years. Gather ye' rosebuds...

About the wine

Production of this wine is only four barrels. The 2007 vintage in Burgundy was a ripe and hearty vintage with exceptional balance and purity of fruit. The Lechenaut Nuits-St-Georges is an authentic pinot noir, varietally correct, with a deep ruby hue and enchanting aromatics of fresh cherry, strawberry, and rose. With a few more years in the bottle those will soften beautifully and reveal savory tones of leather, dried florals and dusty earth. Made completely from their own vines, Domaine Lecheneaut focuses on a family plot of just 10 hectares allowing the two brothers a laser focus on quality in the fields and the cellar. From biodynamic farming to judicious use of new oak and these wines are completely handcrafted and incredibly limited. Add in Jurassic limestone and chalky clay soils and the Lecheneaut bottlings become ones to savor and cherish--get this while you still can!
