About the Wine
This bright, cherry red wine opens with woody nuances and fresh cedar on the nose, followed by dry herbs, plum, hints of vanilla, and caramel. On the palate it’s soft and voluminous with ashen tannins that create a fresh and chiseled finish. The blend is 35% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 40% Cabernet Franc.
About the Winery
Located north of Saint-Emilion, a medieval town listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, our estate is nestled amidst the landscape of hills and traditional vineyards at the heart of a region with ancient wine traditions.
The Grand Français name dates back to the XV century. It referred at that time to an area between the valleys of the Isle and the Dronne, tributaries of the Dordogne. This is, in a region with rich soil and favourable climate that a lord of the great France decided to give birth to one of the most intense relationships that man is able to create with earth: wine production.
Between the Valley Isle and the Dronne, this region is ideally suited for vines. For centuries, Grand Français has drawn its strength from the sandy loam soil to produce serious red wines, offering an incredible natural richness. The vines are exposed on a south-facing hill overlooking the valley of the Isle and enjoy perfect exposure for optimal growth of the grapes.
Certified organic since 2002.
Reviews
This is a soft, round, fleshy style of Bordeaux with a beautiful juicy round mouthfeel, black cherries and blackberries. Notes are followed by a medium body with classic cedar and cigar nuances all wrapped in a supple pure finish. I’ll take a case for the house. ~92 pts, Paolo Barbieri, Master Sommelier
