2015 Remo Farina Amarone della Valpolicella
2015 Remo Farina Amarone della Valpolicella
About the Wine
- Historic family producer
- Not overly dense, full bodied but not heavy
- Winery was Best Italian producer of the year in London 2015
- This wine chosen as #29 on the 50 best wines of the WORLD list according to Luca Gardini in 2016
Balance is key in Amarone. Too high sugars at harvest lead to alcoholic/hot wines. Too much unfermented sugar, and the wine is sweet and cloying. Remo Farina strikes a fine balance at a very fair price, given the escalating price of Amarone. The estate grapes are fine one of the finest subzones in San Pietro in Cariano. Two cousins, Claudio and Elena, inherited the property from their fathers, and are guiding the winery to international acclaim.
Tasting Notes:
Ruby red colour with garnet tinges. A clean nose, ethereal, with hints of spice and cherry, raspberry, currant, cocoa and slight balsamic notes in the background. In the mouth full bodied, with freshness of bright berry fruit and good structure on the palate, with a persistently pleasant finish which includes a hint of dried fruit. Enticing and long. Very complex, big but not dense, elegant and refined with amazing balance.
Varietal blend: 50% Corvina, 20% Corvinone, 20% Rondinella, 10% Molinara/Oseleta/Turchetta
Cooperage: 30% Barrique, 70% Slavonian Oak
Aging: 24 months + additional months in bottle prior to release
Alcohol: 14.5%
Cases produced: (400 imported)
