About the Wine

Aluvia Wines begins where the Andes climb highest, and the soils turn pale with limestone dust.

Anchored in Gualtallary—one of the Uco Valley’s most coveted altitudes—this project draws its name and its identity from the region’s alluvial, mineral-rich terrain. Here, winemaking steps back so altitude, climate, and geology can take the lead.

In this corner of the world, vines grow between extremes: shallow sandy topsoil above ancient alluvial stones, and beneath that, a naturally formed calcareous layer that shapes wines with tension, freshness, and unmistakable mineral drive. It’s a landscape that gives fruit both intensity and precision—magnificent from the depth of its soils to the height of its vineyards.

2022 Aluvia Cabernet Franc is a pure expression of this place. High-elevation nights lock in acidity and structure; fierce daytime light pushes the grapes toward full phenolic ripeness. Cabernet Franc thrives here, yielding a wine that is focused, aromatic, and finely drawn, with polished tannins and a clear sense of origin. A modern, quietly confident take on Gualtallary.

Planted in 2007, the vineyard is farmed and harvested by hand. About 90% of the fruit is destemmed, with the rest left as whole clusters for lift and structure. Native-yeast fermentations unfold over roughly 20 days in stainless steel, followed by 18 months of aging in French oak—just 10% new—to refine texture without overshadowing the site.

Tasting Notes

100% Cabernet Franc.

Bright, fine, and confidently elegant—bursting with red fruit, lifted spice, and unmistakable varietal character. Firm, polished tannins drive a lively, modern profile that feels both precise and expressive.

Critical Reviews

This opens with aromas of paprika, black pepper and red cherries. The palate is refined and tense, with focused, precise tannins. The tight, restrained fruit is gently lifted by subtle juiciness, adding balance and a touch of roundness to the finish. Drink now. ~ 94 James Suckling

The Loire Valley-inspired 2022 Alluvia Cabernet Franc is a lovely expression of the variety's suitability in Uco Valley's sandy limestone soils. It opens with a refined, alluring, floral bouquet supplemented with black fruits and dried-herb aromas with a dusty undertone. The palate is seamless and svelte, concluding with a stony, buoyant finish framed by fine-grained tannins ~ 93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

From the Gualtallary sub-region comes this Cabernet Franc that showcases the green character of the variety. A nose of crushed black pepper leads to a palate of bay leaves and soft notes of mint and red fruit. ~ 90 Wine Enthusiast

What our customers say about us

Aluvia

Mendoza, Argentina

Aluvia is a high-altitude, terroir-driven project in Gualtallary—part of Mendoza’s Uco Valley—anchored in vineyards first planted in 2007 and shaped by alluvial, limestone-rich soils that define every bottle.

Though part of the broader Doña Paula estate, it stands out for its focused expression of place, guided in the vineyard by head of viticulture Martín Kaiser and in the cellar by winemaker Andrea Tansini, both dedicated to crafting wines that reflect the cool climate and unique geology of this exceptional site.
