About the Wine
Monbousquet’s terroir is truly exceptional, with mostly warm, deep gravel to the south and sandy-clay soils to the north. As at Cheval Blanc and Figeac, its soils are largely gravel, and thus warm, so relatively late-ripening Cabernets can ripen perfectly. This natural feature accounts for a particularly large proportion of Cabernet grapes in the vineyard’s composition.
Dating back to 1540 Chateau Monbousquet is no stranger to winemaking. In its long history there estate has always been highly regarded for the wine that is produced, known both for power and finesse. In a vintage like 2016 where nearly all producers were able to make good wine, Monbousquet is able to make great wine.

From tiny yields due to the frost, the 2022 Château Monbousquet is based on 70% Merlot and 15% Each of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. This ripe, medium to full-bodied, voluptuously styled beauty offers classic richness in its cassis and black cherry fruits as well as notes of chocolate, espresso, and leafy herbs. Beautifully balanced and concentrated, with velvety tannins, it's shockingly good. ~92-95 JD
A rich wine with lots of tannins that are very fine and velvety, with deep fruit. Full and flavorful. Slightly salty and irony. Remains fresh and minerally. Some white pepper. Lead pencil. ~93-94 JS
The 2022 Monbousquet is gorgeous. Rich, deep, and explosive, the 2022 offers up an exotic mélange of sumptuous red/purplish fruit, lavender, mint and rose petal. Curvy and sumptuous, with striking fruit purity, Monbousquet is super-impressive in this tasting. ~92-94 AG-VM
