About the Wine

Domaines Ott has been pioneering some of the world’s most prestigious wines from the French Riviera since 1912. Founded in 1896 by Marcel Ott, the wine estates of Domaines Ott were acquired by Louis Roederer in 2004. Domaine Ott is a world-class Rose producer whose high-quality Rosé is second to none!

Château de Selle was the first estate acquired by Marcel Ott in 1912. It is in Taradeau, near Draguignan, on the soil where only olive, lavender, and mulberry trees used to grow. Not far from Thoronet Abbey, close to a former 18th-century residence of the Counts of Provence, the soil is gypsum, red clay, dolomite, and sandstone mixed with gravel and stone, today producing highly distinguished and elegant wines. Perched on high limestone inland slopes where it is sheltered from winter frosts, the estate enjoys a microclimate of mild winters, early springs, and warm and dry summers, always with a great deal of sunshine.

Tasting notes: Rosé. Proprietary blend of Cinsault, Syrah, and Mourvedre. This pale pink wine with golden tints releases fragrances of citrus fruit and orchard flowers enveloped in spice. On the palate, the immediate effect is elegant and open, developing subtle aromas with a lemony edge before a sweet finish of appealing length.

Reviews

The 2022 Rosé Château de Selle Cru Classé opens with a striking bouquet, blending dusty dried flowers with ginger, a spritz of lemon and crushed apples. It’s supple and soothing to the senses, with a textural wave of white strawberry, candied orange and sweet inner florals. A core of brilliant acidity maintains a fantastic balance as this tapers off long and potent. A mineral staining and citrus hints tease the taste buds. Please pour me another. ~93 Vinous

The Ott family’s story in Provence starts at the Château de Selle, the first property Marcel Ott acquired in 1912. Usually “not approachable” is a death knell during our rosé panels, but while this quiet wine doesn’t offer the most immediate pleasure, it has an arresting, seductive finish. Spicy, floral nuance plays behind lemon-curd silkiness, and there’s a clean, lasting purity that’s impressive. Enjoy it before dinner, taking your time and profiting from a Provençal timetable (i.e., run late and enjoy it). ~93 Wine & Spirits

Smoothly textured, this wine with its classic dominance of Grenache and Cinsault is rich. It has a lively backdrop to the ripe red berry fruits that are freshened with orange zest. Drink the wine now. Organic. ~92 Wine Enthusiast
