About the Wine
For four generations, the Groffier family has shaped the story of Domaine Gérard Peirazeau et Fils, a small, exacting estate rooted in Morey-Saint-Denis, at the heart of the Côte de Nuits. Today, the domaine is guided by Laurent Peirazeau and his partner, Sophie Charlopin, who oversee just 3.65 hectares spread across three villages and thirteen appellations, including some of Burgundy’s most revered Grand Crus.
Their approach is quiet and deliberate. Farming is meticulous, yields are controlled, and cellar work is restrained. The goal is never excess, only purity, texture, and balance. Sophie and Laurent are modest by nature, but their wines speak with authority.
The Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Rouge 2022, made entirely from Pinot Noir, is a compelling expression of one of Burgundy’s most formidable Grand Cru sites. Clos de la Roche sits on stony, iron-rich soils that give the wines their signature structure and mineral backbone. “La roche,” or rock, is not poetic here. It is literal.
Clos de la Roche is known for producing some of the most commanding and age-worthy Pinot Noir in Burgundy. This 2022 captures that identity clearly. It is structured, deeply flavored, and built for evolution, developing over time toward game, truffle, and savory complexity while retaining freshness and tension.
The 2022 vintage stands out across Burgundy. Wine Spectator awarded the year 98 points, noting that “the reds are vibrant, complex, balanced, and full of fruit.”
This is Clos de la Roche in its classic form. Intensity balanced by grace. Power guided by precision.
