About the Wine

Paso Robles is one of those places that doesn’t try to impress you—it just does. You’ve got hot days, cool nights, and serious limestone soils—conditions that give Cabernet real depth and structure but also keep the fruit fresh instead of jammy. The wines here have that California generosity, but with a balance you’d expect from much pricier regions. And because Paso is still full of independent, hands-on winemakers, there’s more experimentation. It’s where power meets precision, and where some of the most exciting Cabernets in the state are being made right now.

My Favorite Neighbor is a winery that celebrates people, community, and the simple joy of sharing great wine. Each bottle is crafted to elevate everyday moments—whether enjoyed over a sunset, a quiet evening on the porch, or around the dinner table.

Inspired by the friendship between founder Eric Jensen and his original “favorite neighbor,” Stephan Asseo of L’Aventure Winery, My Favorite Neighbor embodies the collaborative spirit of Paso Robles winemaking, where passion, friendship, and craftsmanship come together in every glass.

The 2022 vintage for Paso Robles was called “outstanding” by Robert Parker, and this bottle is the wine you’ll want for steak night, when friends come over and you need a sure thing that impresses without trying too hard.

Tasting Notes

79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec, 6% Syrah, 4% Petite Sirah et 3% Petit Verdot.

Aromas of blackberry crumble, cherry compote, blueberry pie, and mocha, rounded by hints of coffee ice cream and a touch of cigar box. On the palate, it’s plush and velvety, with rich dark fruit, soft tannins, and a smooth, elegant finish that balances indulgence with finesse.

Critical Reviews

~92 James Suckling

Sweet herbs combine with cloves and dried black cherries as the darling 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon blossoms in the glass. Racy and sleek, it offers ripe citrus-infused red and black fruits elevated by nuances of cola and spice, while a stream of vibrant acidity maintains fantastic balance. Mocha mingles with fine tannins as this finishes with medium length and a licorice tinge. ~ 92 Vinous Media

The nose features a mix of red and black fruits with a touch of bramble. On the palate, it offers well-structured tannins yet remains approachable and enjoyable, whether sipped solo or paired with food. An easy drinker with a bit of heft, this is perfect for backyard barbecue fare, bringing just the right amount of complexity and depth. ~ 91 Decanter

Based on 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec, 6% Syrah, 4% Petite Sirah, and 3% Petit Verdot, aged 20 months in 55% new French oak, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals lifted red, blue, and black fruits, violets, tobacco, and incense notes. It's medium-bodied, beautifully balanced, and polished on the palate, with fine tannins and outstanding length. ~ 91 Jeb Dunnuck

What our customers say about us

My Favorite Neighbor

Paso Robles, California

In the heart of California’s sun-warmed Paso Robles wine country, My Favorite Neighbor was founded in 2016—born from the kind of friendship you’d toast to: two winemakers, side by side, dreaming of turning great grapes into something personal.

Led by Eric Jensen, they glided through clay-rich soils and nearby vineyards, partnering with “neighbors” — dedicated growers who shared the same commitment to quality and community. Their mission? No shortcuts, just honest farming, thoughtful craft, and a wine meant to be pulled from the cellar for special sunsets, quiet porches, and dinner-table conversations.
