About the Wine
At Tamar Ridge, they live by the philosophy that crafting the perfect Pinot Noir is an art form fueled by scientific curiosity. They like to say it takes 50% Sidney Nolan and 50% Albert Einstein to achieve perfection, balancing the beauty of artistry with the precision of science. With over 25 years of dedication, they have mastered the art of Pinot Noir creation, producing a truly extraordinary wine.
Tamar Ridge has combined these elements for over two decades to create something truly special. It's a blend of instinct, daring experimentation, and a profound love for the Tamar Valley that results in a wine that demands your attention.
The 2019 Tamar Ridge Pinot Noir hails from Brown Brothers, a family-owned winery with a storied history dating back to 1889. Nestled in the picturesque Milawa region of the King Valley, Brown Brothers epitomizes innovation and unwavering passion for winemaking. They are trailblazers, pushing the boundaries and daring to experiment, resulting in wines that captivate the senses. Tamar Ridge in Tasmania, was born for their love for Pinot Noir.
As a proud member of Australia's First Families of Wine, Brown Brothers has made its mark by challenging conventions and delighting wine enthusiasts worldwide. They introduced Prosecco and Moscato, blended Cabernet Sauvignon with Sumoll to create Cienna, and continue to innovate at their Kindergarten Winery, where creativity knows no bounds.
Aging: 9 months in French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes
100% Pinot Noir. Red berry fruits are balanced by a good concentration of fine, silky tannins and enough acidity to give this wine a long and persistent finish.
Critical Reviews
Glistening red. Lively aromas of red currant, raspberry and allspice, along with a floral topnote. Light-bodied and energetic in the mouth, offering spice-tinged red berry and rose pastille flavors and a refreshingly bitter blood orange flourish. Shows very good persistence and lingering spiciness on the finish, which is framed by discreet, even tannins. 20% new French oak. ~91 Vinous Media
Vibrant and fruity, this Tassie Pinot gives fresh, crunchy vibes. Strawberries and cherries lead with some stalk, spice and wet stone minerals at the back. Youthful and light-bodied, the fleshy, tart red cherry fruit adds some texture, tugged gently by spicy tannins. The slightly astringent finish falls away quickly. A modern Pinot for drinking now. Christina Pickard. ~90 Wine Enthusiast
Glossy, creamy raspberry and strawberry, alongside a distinctive forest floor character and a touch of cep mushroom. ~90 Decanter
