About the Wine
In the world of fine wine, there are those who merely craft, and then there are those who elevate it to an art form. The Revana Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is a testament to the latter.
Crafted by the talented hands of winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, this wine is pure luxury and one of our top wines from the highly esteemed 2022 vintage!
The International Wine Report stated: “Whether you are a collector, investor, or casual wine lover, the Napa Valley 2022 vintage promises to deliver remarkable wines that reflect the dedication and expertise of the region’s winemakers,” and gave this vintage a 94-point score.
At the heart of this estate is Dr. Madaiah Revana, a cardiologist by profession and a passionate winemaker. His journey began over two decades ago when he planted his first vines. Today, he owns three outstanding estates in Napa Valley, Willamette Valley, and Uco Valley, Argentina. All three of these estates have earned a place on Wine Spectator's Top 100 lists. Remarkably, he is the sole immigrant from India to own three wineries, all of which have achieved this prestigious recognition.
Under the watchful eyes of Napa Valley legends, Vineyard Manager Jim Barbour, and Winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown (Schrader winemaker), Revana’s wines are carefully nurtured from vine to bottle. Given the high touch and focus on quality, only 4000 total cases are produced annually.
After the 2010 harvest, Heidi Peterson Barrett stepped down as Revana's consulting winemaker, leaving a lasting impact on the winery's reputation. And in early 2011, Thomas Rivers Brown joined Revana as the consulting winemaker. Thomas is renowned for his Cabernet Sauvignons crafted for Schrader Cellars and has received accolades such as being named Winemaker of the Year by Food & Wine Magazine in 2010. He's also among the select few winemakers globally to achieve multiple 100-point wine scores from both Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate.
Finally, in 2019, Geoff Davies joined the Revana winemaking team from Outpost Wines, having previously worked closely with Thomas Rivers Brown.
At Revana, their sole focus is on producing a single varietal of wine, Cabernet Sauvignon. This exclusive dedication allows them to reach a level of quality and artistry that they truly aim for, on par with the world's great wines.
Revana not only crafts its own Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from its 8.2-acre site in the St. Helena AVA but also sources fruit from some of Napa Valley's finest vineyard sites. In addition to the estate vineyard, this wine includes fruit from Edcora Vineyard in Atlas Peak, Shifflett Ranch in Oak Knoll District, and the Panek vineyard in
Saint Helena.
This wine is an homage to Dr. Revana's Indian heritage. It's a wine that tells a story, from the volcanic soils of the Aiken Stoney Clay loam to the gravel and sand mix of hillside erosion, every element contributing to its complexity.
Aging: 20 months barrel aged - 60% New French Oak, 40% Second-use French Oak.
Tasting Notes
Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with a touch of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The wine presents soft tannins that provide a smooth mouthfeel, along with chocolatey undertones that offer a sensory allure. The combination of brambly berry and baking spice notes complements robust dark fruit flavors and elegant tannins. WOW! We love this wine.
Critical Reviews
The 2022 Revana Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley is sourced from multiple vineyard sites and showcases its pedigree with a deep violet-black hue in the glass. Aromas of blackberry compote, roasted coffee beans, and graphite unfurl slowly, giving way to nuances of dried thyme and warm slate. On the palate, it unfolds with layers of plum preserves, bittersweet cocoa, and cigar box, underpinned by earthy tones of crushed basalt and savory spice. The mouthfeel is broad yet polished, with generous fruit weight balanced by fine tannins and an undercurrent of vibrant acidity. ~95 pts International Wine Report
A gorgeous new edition of this wine that is coming from several sites throughout the Napa Valley, this 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon stands inky in the glass, offering rich dark currant and tobacco leaf flavors that collide with loamy soils and dark chocolate shavings on the palate. The pillowy texture really entices. Full-bodied and delicious, enjoy now and over the next ten plus years. Drink 2025-2035 ~94 Owen Bargreen
