About the Wine

Since 1912 the Osborn family have tended vineyards in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Today fourth generation family member, Chester, makes distinctive wines using traditional methods both in the vineyard and the winery. Every vineyard has a personality Chester encourage to flourish with minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery. Through time honored techniques such as open fermentation, foot treading and basket pressing, this personality is allowed to shine! Harmony between environmental sustainability and wine industry practice is a strong commitment upheld at d'Arenberg, with the aim to pass on a sustainable business to the next generation!

Grapes affected with Botrytis are small and wrinkly, inspiring the name of this wine, which was originally released in 1985 as The Noble Riesling. Botrytis Cinerea, affectionately known as Noble Rot, weakens grape skins causing water to evaporate which results in sweet, concentrated flavors. These shriveled berries are basket pressed before a long fermentation, resulting in a luscious wine with intense richness and viscosity.

Tasting notes: The nose is lifted with an abundance of honey and citrus notes and the palate is full of lemon pie, honey dew and quince paste flavors. The acidity is tight but forgiving, resulting in a beautifully balanced wine with a long finish.
