This ripe wine has good structure. Tannins go with the dense black-currant and berry fruits, giving a young, richly textured wine. Wood aging has added spice and calmed the vibrant fruitiness to give final complexity. Drink the wine from 2022. ~90 Wine Enthusiast

About the Wine
Since 1850, Domaine J. Boulon has been producing wine in southern Burgundy. Continuous growth and development that spans six generations have allowed the Boulon family to improve their wines year after year. They control every aspect of winemaking from vine to bottle. For the majority of their history, the wines from this modest family have rarely if ever left France. But thanks to a couple of vineyard purchases in 2005 the US market can finally taste the wines from this small French family that's been doing it for over 100 years!
Moulin-a-Vent is one of the top Cru's in Beaujolais. It's seen as one of the most ageable Cru's and nicknamed, "The Lord of Beaujolais" due to its noble bouquet. Moulin-à-Vent get's its name from a historical monument, an old windmill, that overlooks the vineyards and signifies the strength and power expressed in the wines. Wines from this Cru can age for 7+ years and even longer in great vintages.
Like the twin great vintages of Brunello in 2015 and 2016, Beaujolais too had great back-to-back vintages in 2018 and 2019. 2018 is a ripe, fruit-forward vintage that has the capability of aging 5 to 10 years in bottle. Decanter tells us that 2018 features an "abundant crop of flamboyant, ripe, dark fruit Beaujolais which retain freshness, moderate alcohol, and good acidity. A fine vintage where the best wines will age very well."
Aging: 12 months in oak casks.
Tasting Notes: The color is a deep garnet. The wine features a mixture of flavors from red berries, fresh rose, and backing spice. The year in oak allows this wine to keep all the characteristics of Beaujolais while getting closer to a Pinot-like Burgundian expression.
