“Aglianico is primed for discovery by those seeking distinctive, full-bodied reds with a depth of flavor, vibrant tension, and age-ability.” ~Wine Spectator
Quintodecimo is the dream of a lifetime for Luigi Moio. Luigi's history in the world of wine began before he was born thanks to the fact that his father was a renowned winegrower from the Campania region. Luigi decided to enter the world of wine at a very young age and as expected, he studied enology in Italy, with a master's degree in Agricultural Sciences and a doctorate and many years of experience in Burgundy.
Quintodecimo winery is located in the heart of Campania, the region where the largest production of Aglianico in the world is found. Campania is a magical region in southern Italy, where you’ll find amazing natural landscapes like Mount Vesuvius and world heritage sites like Pompeii.
The terroir that makes up Quintodecimo is ideal for the vine, especially for the perfect development of the Aglianico grape. The climate benefits from its proximity to the Apennine Mountain range, which translates into abundant rainfall and extreme temperatures. The Quintodecimo vineyard is managed with responsible viticulture that respects the environment, ecological practices are used in the vineyard.
Founder Luigi Moio says: “A great wine is a perfect mix between poetry and science, between the imponderable and the measurable. It is essentially beautiful, a work of art.” And 2018 Quintodecimo Terra d'Eclano Aglianico Irpinia is the representation of this quote.
This amazing 100% Aglianico is a seductive and elegant wine with complex aromas of red berries, licorice, and coffee. This is a perfect example of a powerful, well-structured, age-worthy Aglianico.
Aging: For 12 months in oak barrels (1/3 new oak.)
Tasting Notes: 100% Aglianico. Seductive and elegant, with complex aromas of red fruits, plum, licorice, and coffee. The flavor is persistent with mineral, balsamic and spicy notes. Good structure on the palate, with soft and velvety tannins. It shows an extraordinary aging potential. Pair this wine with meat like brisket, smoked pork, or BBQ beef; cheeses like Pecorino or Provolone; or grilled Portobello.
“A full-bodied and finely wrought Aglianico here, with loads of ripe plums, along with light tar and thick, almost chocolatey notes. Fully integrated tannins and a long, controlled finish. Lots of flavors. Top Aglianico. Drink or hold.” ~94 Points, James Suckling.
“Extremely captivating in the main profile alternating notes of lavender, blueberry juice, agapanthus flowers, jasmine, and lime. In the background, the elegance is revealed with nuances of wet violets and plums. Medium-full body, perfectly ripe and well-polished tannins, and a graceful and well-designed finish. Drink now.” ~93 Points, WinesCritic.com
