About the Wine
Hailed as California’s most graceful sparkling wine—100-point —it doesn’t get better than this. The 2019 Roederer Estate L'Ermitage Brut is the sparkling wine that defines elegance in California, often hailed as the finest of its kind. It’s what happens when a legendary Champagne house meets the perfect California terroir.
Crafted by Roederer Estate, the American arm of the legendary Champagne Louis Roederer family, this wine carries the weight of over 200 years of Champagne craftsmanship. Founded by Jean-Claude Rouzaud, Roederer Estate was built on the belief that only estate-grown fruit, carefully nurtured and harvested, could create truly exceptional sparkling wines. He chose Anderson Valley, a remote, cool-climate paradise, because it offered a unique terroir that Napa couldn’t—an environment where grapes ripen slowly, retaining incredible freshness and natural acidity.
Roederer Estate isn’t just any winery. It’s a cornerstone in the world of sparkling wine, and this 2019 L'Ermitage Brut is a testament to that. From its 100-point score to its global acclaim, this wine isn’t just talked about—it’s revered. In the world of fine sparkling wines, Roederer Estate is a name synonymous with excellence. The winery’s commitment to quality and tradition has helped put California sparkling wines on the world stage, alongside Champagne. It’s a true pioneer in the industry.
Since releasing its first wine in 1988, Roederer Estate has earned countless accolades, shaping the future of California sparkling. Under the leadership of Frédéric Rouzaud, the seventh-generation head of Champagne Louis Roederer, this winery continues to uphold its French heritage while embracing California’s bold, natural beauty. Roederer Estate crafts its wines with the same meticulous care as its French counterpart—combining decades of winemaking mastery with the purity of Anderson Valley’s terroir.
The concept of the vintage L’Ermitage is the same one that is used in Champagne: only the best of the vintage is selected. These are exceptional wines that create a “noble” blend that allows for longer aging, which produces a fine wine with elegance and finesse. Vintage 2019 features aromas of quince paste and light pastry crust.
This isn’t just another bottle—it’s a collector’s piece.
Tasting Notes

Critical Reviews
If sunshine could be bottled it would be this. Aromas of fresh succulent stone fruit, a hint of yeast, citrus blossoms and notes of quince on the nose. The mousse is creamy and light with baked red apples, blood orange zest, white grapefruit, sticky caramel and layered salinity with a mouthwatering finish. It will bring a smile to your lips. ~100 Wine Enthusiast
A young, potent wine, the 2019 Brut L'Ermitage is shaping up to be the greatest wine ever made at Roederer Estate. The aromatics are beguiling, but the 2019 is going to need a number of years to settle down. Readers will have to be patient. The 2019 is seriously impressive, but it needs time. ... Superb. ~96 Vinous Media
The 2019 Brut L'Ermitage blends 52% Chardonnay and 48% Pinot Noir, all estate grown from one growing season, with 3.9% Chardonnay from the 2016 vintage, and a dosage of 6 grams per liter. A complete, well-integrated, medium-bodied sparkling wine with a balance of fruit and savory notes, it offers flecks of oak spice and pastry crust. Textured and creamy in style, it has a lingering brightness on the finish and should age well over the next 10-15 years. ~95 Jeb Dunnuck
L’Ermitage is not made every year, but when it is, it’s perhaps the most graceful sparkling wine made in California. It’s beautifully complex as well as refined. Layers of creamy notes are interspersed with a taut crispness. Purity and energy are woven together. The wine rests with its yeast lees for 4 years, and a small bit of oak-aged reserve wine is added at the end. It all adds up to a wine of great finesse. ~95 Karen MacNeil
Dynamic yet elegantly structured, with alluring flavors of Asian pear, baked apple, brioche, clove and nutmeg that build richness on the graceful finish. ~94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
