About the Wine

Tenuta Santa Giulia has been a quiet presence on the northern edge of the Montalcino DOCG since the mid-20th century. Founded by the Terzuoli family in the 1950s, the estate began as a small farming property and gradually evolved into an 18-hectare hillside vineyard holding, just a short drive from Casanova di Neri.

Today, the estate remains fully family-run, with Gianluca Terzuoli guiding the work in both the vineyards and the cellar.

Situated at roughly 300 meters above sea level in one of Montalcino’s coolest pockets, Santa Giulia has always carved its own path. What was once considered too cold for ripening Sangiovese now produces wines prized for their finesse and clarity.

The estate’s mixed landscape—vines surrounded by olive trees, woodlands, and grain fields—creates a small, balanced ecosystem that reflects the family’s long-standing approach to sustainable farming.

The 2019 vintage is a continuation of that legacy: a wine shaped by elevation, tradition, and the steady hand of a family that has tended this land for generations.

Crafted with the same traditional winemaking philosophy—no new oak, long macerations, and deep respect for the character of the fruit—this Brunello expresses the quiet strength of the northern Montalcino zone. It’s a reminder that some of the region’s most soulful wines come from its most unassuming corners.

Tasting Notes

100% Sangiovese

Deep ruby red color. Intense, elegant, and fine aroma. Dry, warm, soft, with a balanced body. Very elegant wine with structure, it is suitable for long aging due to the presence of ripe tannins and acidity.

Critical Reviews

The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino opens slowly in the glass, delicate and floral, with hints of cedar and worn leather complementing dusty rose. This is silky in texture and lifted in feel with pretty red berry fruits that flow under an air of violet inner florals. It finishes with crunchy tannins and hints of orange that balance the concentration of primary fruit that lingers. This is a wine of purity and balanced for the cellar. Very nice. ~ 93 Vinous Media

Luminous in the glass it shows notes of cherries, raspberries, wild blueberries, and lemon peel. Medium body, round, fine-grained tannins, and an honest and genuine finish that is pleasantly drinkable. Better from 2025. ~ 92 WinesCritic.com

The nose is earthy and fresh, but gentle, with aromas of potting soil, mixed herbs, pomegranate, and figs. On the palate, a strong current of cherries fortifies the figs against peppery earthiness, complementing fierce tannins and a smoldering heat. ~ 92 Wine Enthusiast

Very pretty perfumes of black cherries, sandalwood, and red roses follow through to a full body with lots of tannins and wood tannins that follow through to a fresh and racy finish. Give it time. Best after 2027.~ 92 James Suckling

Brunello, Rosso di Montalcino are the result of a craft carried out with dedication, care and competence.
