About the Wine
Welcome spring and summer with Soave, a wine that pairs with backyard soirees, picnics, and days at the beach.
If you’ve been hearing lots of buzz about Soave recently, it’s because small producers like Corte Sant’Alda have been carefully nurturing the vineyards in the region. Modern Soave’s quality reflects the care and intent of these producers. Many of the region’s wines are also a fantastic value, and the 2020 Corte Sant'Alda Soave Veneto definitely falls under the fantastic value category.
Established as a DOC in 1968, as a matter of fact it was the first white wine DOC in Italy, Soave’s hillside vineyards sit southwest of Venice in the Veneto. The soils are rich with clay and volcanic minerals that come from the volcanic hills above the region. To learn more about this amazing grape and the wines from it, click here.
Marinella Camerani, the force behind Corte Sant’Alda, believes these vineyards with their grape-nourishing soils have been put in her hands, and she must give them back in an improved state, free, with their own soul. That’s why since 1985 when she started converting the vineyards of her estate, she’s employed sustainable and biodynamic practices in the vineyards—the winery is now Demeter certified—improving the health of the soil that grows the native grapes that go into her Soave. Marinella is now considered one of the region’s great winemakers.
Balance and harmony are paramount at Corte Sant’Alda, in both the vineyards and the cellar. That’s evidenced in the perfection of the blend of this wine that’s fermented with indigenous yeast. The majority (80%) of Corte Sant’Alda’s Soave is the indigenous Garganega, the main grape in Soave wines (and one of Italy’s great white varieties), and gives them their orange zest, almond, and melon aromas and flavors. The Garganega is blended with Trebbiano di Soave giving the wine a tangy liveliness.
The result is a smooth, juicy, fresh, lively wine with an elegance and structure that’s begging to pair with veal scaloppini, fettuccine Alfredo, or roast chicken.
Aging: Fermented in stainless with sur lie aging for 3-6 months.
Tasting Notes: This bright straw yellow wine has aromas of ripe red fruit, citrus, herbs, and fresh almonds. On the palate, it’s tangy and fresh with a mineral savoriness. Medium bodied and well balanced.
