About the Wine

Château-Figeac has always been acknowledged as one of the top Bordeaux wines with the best ageing potential.

Chateau Figeac isn't just any winery; it's a piece of Bordeaux's past. With roots tracing back to ancient times, this estate has stood the test of time, producing wines that honor centuries of craftsmanship.

Exploring the grounds of Chateau Figeac reveals a blend of ancient and modern. From Roman remnants to Renaissance architecture, every corner tells a story of the past, inviting visitors to experience Bordeaux's heritage firsthand.

Guided by Thierry Manoncourt's vision, Chateau Figeac embraces progress while staying true to tradition. With innovations like stainless steel fermentation vats and the introduction of second wines, the estate stands as a pioneer in modern winemaking.

After a period of evolution, Chateau Figeac is back and better than ever. Under Michel Rolland's guidance, the estate has reclaimed its Prime status.

Petit-Figeac is Chateau Figeac's stunning second wine. Since 1945, Château-Figeac has produced a second wine, introduced by Thierry Manoncourt, one of the first Bordeaux winemakers to focus on strict quality. From 2012, this wine has been called Petit-Figeac and is made only from grapes grown on the Château-Figeac estate.

Petit-Figeac is carefully selected during blending by the talented team at Château-Figeac. It's lighter and more approachable than the main wine, with a smooth texture and a charming character that shows itself earlier. It's the perfect way to experience the style of the estate.

Tasting Notes

50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc. The 2021 Petit-Figeac is a beautiful, fresh, and delightful wine. It offers lovely aromas of raspberry, violets, blood orange, and rose petals. Medium-bodied with soft tannins and a bright, juicy core of fruit, it's a wine that's hard to resist once it's released.

Critical Reviews

This wine has beautiful aromas of graphite with plums, berries and some dried flowers. Medium-bodied with juicy fruit and an iron and chocolate undertone. Firm and integrated tannins and a lightly chewy finish. Serious for the vintage, it needs to come around with bottle age. First year in the new winery. Best after 2027. ~95 JS

Soft florally, lightly delicate flowers, blue fruits and spices. Gorgeous succulence and texture - fluffy almost, textured, pillowy, the flavours caresses the mouth and linger. Salty, spicy, liquorice, tobacco and clove, but fruity too with the cleanest finish. Delicious. A serious second wine, one of enjoyment, juicy blackcurrant, black cherry and chalk. Sexy and not many 2021s are that sexy, they're more svelte. Great character. ~94 Decanter

The 2021 Petit-Figeac is gorgeous. Soft, pliant and beautifully understated, the 2021 is a fine choice for drinking now and over the next decade. Sweet red cherry, red plum, flowers and blood orange all take shape nicely. This is a fine second wine . ~91 Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

Based on 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in 30% new wood, the 2021 Petit-Figeac is a delicious, forward, incredibly charming second wine that has classic currant, tobacco, and floral aromatics, medium body, ripe, polished tannins, and outstanding length. It’s a terrific, outstanding second wine that already offers pleasure yet should evolve nicely over the coming 7-8 years, if not longer. ~90 Jeb Dunnuck

The 2021 Petit-Figeac is an immensely pretty, pure, charming wine, bursting with aromas of raspberry coulis, violets, blood orange and rose petals, followed by a medium-bodied, supple and suave palate that's bright and precise, with a succulent core of fruit and melting tannins. It will be hard to resist on release. ~90 RP
