About The Wine

Stated simply, 2021 is a triumph for Montalcino... There is something magical about the 2021 Brunellos...Their concentration and depth create a saturating tension that’s beautifully balanced by lively acidity, the saving grace for this warm vintage... The 2021 vintage also yielded wines of extremely high quality in the entry-level Brunello category, meaning that there will be plenty of excellent, affordable wines to choose from. ~Vinous Media

Giovanna Neri holds a degree in Law, yet inherited her father’s deep love of wine and went on to become one of Montalcino’s most respected and sought-after winemakers. Today, Giovanna’s singular vision is supported by her daughter, Diletta. Their shared enthusiasm, discipline, and commitment have established Col di Lamo as one of the most dynamic and refined estates in the Montalcino area.

If you haven’t heard of Col di Lamo, you may recognize the name Casanova di Neri, the producer behind the #1 Wine Spectator Wine of the Year. Originally, Casanova di Neri and Col di Lamo were a single legendary estate, until brother and sister Giacomo and Gianna Neri divided the family property following the unexpected passing of their trailblazing father. Positioned atop some of the most perfectly situated land in the Brunello DOCG, wines from Col di Lamo stand among the most classical, dusty, and silky expressions of Sangiovese Grosso in the region.

The 2021 vintage represents the greatest Brunello Gianna has ever released.

More on the iconic 2021 vintage:

"One (Brunello) vintage that has truly proven itself is 2021. There is something magical about the 2021 Brunellos. The wines offer both near-term appeal and the balance to mature over the next 15 to 20 years. These are structured, youthfully tense wines, but it’s not difficult to find pleasure in them today. Stated simply, 2021 is a triumph for Montalcino" - Eric Guido, Vinous

"There is something unmistakably classical about Brunello di Montalcino 2021. The wines have an almost old-fashioned charm, with fresh, graceful aromatics that recall balanced vintages of the past such as 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2004...It's been a while since I drank bottles of young Brunello di Montalcino straight after a tasting and enjoyed them with dinner. But that's exactly what I did last month... The 2021s show freshness, lightness and transparency, making them highly appealing today while still offering aging potential." - James Suckling

100% Sangiovese.

On the nose, complex and fresh, with inviting fruit aromas balanced by oak-imparted spices. Well-structured and full-bodied on the palate, with fine tannins that promise great aging capacity; long and impressive finish. An ideal companion to red meat entrées, hearty stews, and assorted cheeses.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

Subtle and complex aromas of red cherries, roses and orange peel follow through to a medium body with ultra-fine tannins that caress you palate and deliver beauty and verve. Persistent and caressing. Gorgeous now, but better in 2027. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. ~96 James Suckling
