About The Wine

Started in 1981 by Justin Baldwin, Justin Winery has become a standard-bearer in Paso Robles and the Central Coast. Justin is a wine Rockstar and eminence in California; he was named by wine critic Robert Parker Jr one of his “Wine Heroes,” and he has appeared on Wine Enthusiast’s list of Top Cabernet and Blended Wine Producers for the past seven years.

In 2010, billionaire Stewart Resnick purchased the winery, ushering in new investment in vineyards, operations, and infrastructure. Mr. Resnick has cornered the market with well-known grocery products like POM pomegranate drink, FIJI water, Wonderful Pistachios, and Halo citrus. From strength to strength, Justin Winery continues expansion in quality and distribution. Justin Baldwin is still involved in the winery, but now he’s focusing on what he loves more: Making great wines and outstanding blends! “Winemaking is an art, not a science; it’s an expression of the winemaker in the bottle”, he says. The success of Justin's Cabernet and Bordeaux-inspired blends achieved to put Paso Robles on the map.

Justin Winery has four different vineyards located in some of the most important subregions of Paso Robles. These vineyards share terroir similarities with one of the most esteemed wine regions in the world, Bordeaux! The combination of the soils composed of limestone and marine deposits, the climate with ideal thermal differentials, and the grape varieties that are planted, allow the production of world-class Bordeaux-style blends.

The winemaking at Justin Winery is a work of art. Fred Holloway, alongside Scott Shirley, are the expert winemakers who have combined old and new world winemaking styles and techniques, accomplishing exquisite and top-tier wines.

In addition to being a very successful winery, Justin also offers an impressive and luxurious experience for travelers and foodies. Without a doubt, a must-stop on your next trip to Paso Robles!

“For more than 30 vintages, ISOSCELES has been the flagship wine and quality benchmark for this style of wine here on the Central Coast of California. A blend based on Cabernet Sauvignon supported by Cabernet Franc and Merlot, ISOSCELES shows why Paso Robles is such a great place to grow these varieties.”

86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc.

Bright with a dark purple/black core, lightening to ruby/purple at the rim, with slowly forming, moderately stained tears on the glass.

Complex and attractively aromatic, showing very ripe cherry and black currant fruit followed by savory notes of cedar, pipe tobacco, vanilla bean, baking spice, and warm oak.

Full-bodied on the palate with ripe notes of crème de cassis and black cherry jam, with hints of red berry fruit on entry and vanilla, licorice, and baking spice leading into the midpalate, which shows complex savory notes of cedar, tobacco leaf, and leather. The lengthy and continually changing finish progresses from ripe black cherry fruit flavors accented by baking spice and oak notes to ripe chewy tannins and balancing acidity that adds depth and freshness.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

A concentrated and rich nose with aromas of blood plums, mocha, prunes, and baking spices. The plate is full-bodied with firm tannins and long, lingering notes of blackberry compote, roasted meat, graphite, and citrus rind. Made from a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Merlot. It needs time in a bottle for the tannins to soften. Drinkable now, but best from 2028. ~ 93 James Suckling

The 2021 Isosceles is remarkably pretty, with a peppery array of wild herbs, mint leaf and tart cherries. Silken in feel, it reveals depths of ripe red and black fruits that slowly saturate as a core of vibrant acidity maintains energy throughout. The finish is structured and long, leaving a tart concentration of primary fruits and a balsamic twang. ~ 93 Vinous Media

THE PRODUCER

Justin Vineyards & Winery

Founded in 1981 by Justin Baldwin, Justin Vineyards & Winery helped put Paso Robles on the global wine map with its bold Bordeaux-style blends and meticulous estate farming. Nestled in the rugged limestone hills of California’s Central Coast, the winery’s vineyards benefit from warm days, cool coastal nights, and ancient calcareous soils that mirror those of France’s Right Bank. Justin’s philosophy — balance, structure, and elegance — guides every bottle, from the iconic ISOSCELES to its estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Over four decades later, Justin remains a benchmark for Paso Robles winemaking, blending Old World techniques with the vibrant character of California terroir.
