About The Wine

The story of Casa Madero begins in 1597, when King Felipe II of Spain granted Don Lorenzo García the Hacienda de San Lorenzo to produce wine and brandy for the Crown. What started as a royal experiment became history — Casa Madero is now recognized as the oldest winery in the Americas.

In 1893, the estate was purchased by Evaristo Madero, whose grandson, Francisco I. Madero would go on to lead the 1910 Mexican Revolution and become President of Mexico — giving the winery a deep connection to the nation’s heritage.

Set at 5,000 feet above sea level in Valle de Parras, Coahuila, Casa Madero thrives in a unique oasis at the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains, where pure spring water and extreme diurnal temperatures craft wines of balance, freshness, and depth.

Today, Casa Madero stands at the forefront of sustainable, certified-organic winemaking, boasting ISO 9000 certification and USDA National Organic Program compliance for several vineyards. It is also the first winery in the Americas to earn recognition from Grandes Pagos de España — an honor shared by only 17 elite estates in Spain.

With over 800 international medals and a reputation for consistent excellence, Casa Madero continues to prove that world-class wine doesn’t only come from Europe — it’s thriving in the heart of Mexico.

The 2023 Casa Madero Cabernet Sauvignon embodies this legacy, delivering vibrant dark fruit, elegant structure, and a taste of Valle de Parras’ extraordinary high-altitude terroir — a true testament to Mexico’s oldest and most celebrated winery.

THE PRODUCER

Casa Madero

Nestled at 5,000 feet in the San Lorenzo estate of Valle de Parras, Coahuila, Casa Madero traces its roots back to 1597 when King Philip II of Spain granted Don Lorenzo García the land and the right to produce wine and brandy. Over the centuries it weathered revolutions, changing ownership, and evolving viticulture—until in 1893 the property passed into the hands of Evaristo Madero, whose grandson, Francisco I. Madero, would later help shape modern Mexico.

Today Casa Madero proudly claims the title of the oldest winery in the Americas, and stands as a living bridge between colonial traditions and contemporary Mexican winemaking.

From those historic cellars, Casa Madero has emerged as a leader in innovation and sustainability. The winery boasts ISO 9001 certification and achieved organic-vineyard status early among Mexican producers. With vineyards planted in a high-altitude oasis of pure spring-fed water, the estate harnesses a unique terroir of warm days and crisp nights to craft wines of structure and elegance.

By integrating centuries-old heritage with state-of-the-art methods and international recognition, Casa Madero has positioned itself not just as a historical landmark, but as a benchmark for world-class wine from Mexico.
