About the Wine
Let’s set the scene: the sea breeze whispers through limestone hills, the sun glints off terracotta rooftops, and somewhere in the distance, a cork pops. That’s not just summer calling—it’s Bandol, and Domaine de l’Olivette has captured it in this bottle.
This rosé isn’t just pretty in pink—it’s legendary in Provence. From the sun-soaked terraces just east of Marseille, where vines have clung to the hills since 600 BC, comes a wine that delivers complexity, depth, and just enough attitude to keep things interesting. It's not afraid to show a little muscle.
Bandol is Mourvèdre country. That dark, noble grape that typically broods in big, age-worthy reds is coaxed here into something wild, refined, and sun-drenched. Grenache and Cinsault round out the blend like backup dancers who know exactly when to shine. The nose? Light citrus, delicate white florals, a hint of salty air. The palate? Creamy, round, full—then snap!—a spicy, savoury finish that lingers like the last rays of sun on a perfect July evening.
Domaine de l’Olivette has been at it for over 200 years, with the Dumoutier family still at the helm, hand-harvesting grapes in a natural amphitheatre nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the Massif de la Sainte-Baume. Certified HVE (that’s France’s eco-seal of approval), they farm with a deep respect for the land—no chemicals, no nonsense.
This isn’t your “whatever’s cold in the fridge” rosé. This is the real deal.
Serve it with grilled prawns, rosemary chicken, or nothing at all but a salty breeze and a smug little smile.
Get it while it’s hot out—and before it’s gone.
Tasting Notes
40% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, 30% Cinsault. The 2023 Domaine de l’Olivette Bandol Rosé hits with sun-kissed citrus, white peach, and a whisper of florals. It’s creamy, crisp, and finishes with a spicy kick—thanks to Mourvèdre’s signature swagger. Fresh, full, and seriously hard to put down.
Reviews
A weighty, substantial version, with time in glass revealing grilled orange and juicy peach flavors. Creamy and rich in feel, with white mocha notes adding a sensual dimension and herbal savoriness driving freshness. Bitter quinine and singed garrigue notes mark the weighty yet elegant finish. Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Grenache. Drink now through 2028. 12,500 cases made, 3,000 cases imported. ~91 Wine Spectator
