About The Wine

The story of Domaines Ott begins in 1896, when Marcel Ott, a young agricultural engineer from Alsace, traveled to Provence with a vision that would change French viticulture forever. At a time when the region's vineyards were struggling to recover from the phylloxera crisis, Ott saw a land of ancient potential. He didn't just want to make wine; he wanted to restore the prestige of a region where vines had thrived since the Phocaeans arrived in 600 BC.

He spent years scouting the Var department before acquiring his first crown jewel, Chateau de Selle, in 1912. This was followed by the seaside vines of Clos Mireille in 1930 and the rugged, limestone-rich Chateau Romassan in 1956. Together, these three estates formed a trio of distinct terroirs that proved Provence was capable of producing world-class, cellar-worthy fine wine.

The true significance of Domaines Ott lies in its relentless pursuit of quality long before rosé was a global trend. Marcel Ott and his descendants were pioneers who treated rosé with the same reverence and technical precision usually reserved for Grand Cru reds. This dedication earned Clos Mireille and Chateau de Selle their spots in the elite 1955 Provence wine classification, a distinction held by only a handful of estates. They even designed their own iconic, amphora-shaped bottle in 1930—a silhouette that remains a global symbol of Provencal elegance today. By focusing on manual harvests, organic fertilizers, and an unwavering respect for the land, the Ott family elevated the reputation of an entire region, proving that pink wine could be as complex and prestigious as any other.

In 2018, a new chapter began when the estate was acquired by the legendary Champagne house Louis Roederer. This partnership united two of the most respected names in the wine world, ensuring that the legacy of Domaines Ott would have the resources to reach even greater heights. Despite this change in ownership, the estate remains a family affair at its heart, with the Ott family continuing to manage the day-to-day operations and preserve the artisanal spirit Marcel established over a century ago. Today, this heritage culminates in the "Etoile" blend, a multi-terroir masterpiece that ranks among the most expensive and sought-after rosés in the world. When you hold a bottle of Domaines Ott, you aren't just holding a luxury product; you are holding a piece of French history that balances a 2,600-year-old tradition with a modern commitment to excellence.

Pastel pink hue with soft, rosewood tints. The wine displays a fresh nose redolent of red berries, citrus fruits and white blossom. It is luscious and fruity on the palate with a smooth and silky mouthfeel. Fresh notes of citrus zest accompany the persistent finish.
