About the Wine

Founded in 1729, Ruinart holds the distinction of being the oldest Champagne house in history. Inspired by visionary monk Dom Thierry Ruinart, the maison has spent nearly three centuries refining the art of Chardonnay-driven Champagne, earning a reputation for purity, luminosity, and finesse. Deep beneath the hills of Reims, Ruinart’s wines age in UNESCO-listed chalk cellars (crayères)—labyrinths carved from ancient limestone that provide perfect natural conditions for slow maturation.

Each bottle emerging from these cool, silent vaults reflects the house’s enduring dedication to elegance and craftsmanship.

From this legacy comes the 2010 Ruinart Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs Millésime, a masterful expression of the Grand Cru vineyards of the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims.

Crafted entirely from 100% Chardonnay, this vintage Champagne embodies the essence of refinement and minerality that defines Ruinart’s style.

Aged for over a decade in the maison’s historic cellars and finished under the traditional cork-aging method.

Tasting Notes

The blend is 100% Chardonnay exclusively from Grand Cru vineyards: 75% from the Côte des Blancs (Chouilly, Le Mesnil, Oger and Avize) and 25% from the northern slopes of Montagne de Reims (predominantly Sillery and Verzenay).

The palate delivers a lovely balance of minerality, toast and tight acidity, mingling with stone fruit and citrus flavors.

Concentrated and powerful, yet balanced and refined with a long and subtle finish. A superb choice for those who like more mature Champagnes.

Critical Reviews

The 2010 Dom Ruinart is truly epic. It’s also an eye-opening wine. And I do mean wine. Because the first impression is really of wine more than Champagne. The 2010 signals a major shift in philosophy, as Dom Ruinart is now aged entirely under cork (rather than crown seal) as it was back in the early 1960s. Lemon peel, white flowers, mint, crushed rocks and white pepper all race across the palate, announcing a Champagne of stature, breed and pure class. All the elements build as the 2010 crescendos into its intensely saline, mineral-drenched finish. The low dosage of 4 grams per liter is perfectly judged. I try to avoid the tired clichés that make comparisons with Burgundy, but it is impossible here. The best way I can describe the 2010 Dom Ruinart is that it tastes like a great Corton-Charlemagne with bubbles. ~ 98 Vinous Media

Pale yellow-green, silver reflections, fine, lively mousse. Vanilla, fine roasted aromas from the long yeast storage, intense iris blossom, almond cake, some broom, very multi-faceted, reductive bouquet, candied limes, very multi-faceted and inviting. Complex, fine white fruit, appears light-footed, finesse-rich acid structure, white apple, salty-lemony, very good length, fine, salty style, a delicate wine, endowed with incredible youthfulness and freshness. A milestone for Dom Ruinart, chapeau! (Deg. 1/2020). ~98 Falstaff

Champagne Ruinart

Champagne, France

Champagne Ruinart, founded in 1729, is the oldest established Champagne house. It was inspired by Dom Ruinart, a Benedictine monk born in 1657, whose early writings on “wine with bubbles” laid the groundwork for the Maison.

Over the centuries, the Ruinart family pioneered several Champagne firsts — including the first rosé Champagne and the use of wooden shipping cases. Today, the house produces nearly 2 million bottles annually and is part of the LVMH luxury group.

Ruinart’s vineyards span the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims, with a style that favors Chardonnay’s elegance over Pinot Noir’s power. Its prestige cuvée, Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs, is made entirely from Grand Cru Chardonnay and aged for a decade in the historic 8km chalk cellars beneath Reims — among the deepest and most storied in Champagne.
