About the Wine

In 1825, Pierre Faiveley founded the firm that now bears the name Domaine Faiveley. At that time, the firm was a classic négociant, buying and selling wine. But from generation to generation, with a strong commitment to the quality of Burgundy’s patrimony, the Faiveley family has purchased vineyards and is today among the largest owners of classified vineyards in the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise with holdings totaling 331 acres, of which 30 acres are Grand Crus and 67 acres are premiers crus.

On October 15, 2013, Domaine Faiveley reported it had acquired 50 acres of vines previously owned by Domaine Dupont-Tisserandot of Gevrey-Chambertin, including parts of the Grands Crus Charmes-Chambertin, Mazis-Chambertin and Le Rognet et Corton and Premiers Crus Lavaux St.-Jacques, Les Cazetiers and La Petite Chapelle.

Faiveley’s white wines are both silky and powerful. They bring together purity, tension, and minerality. The red wines are the perfect illustration of a successful marriage of elegance, precision, and concentration.

Aging: 16 months 50% new French Oak barrels

Tasting Notes: Red Wine. 100% Pinot Noir. Intense ruby red hue. The nose reveals intense and complex aromas of ripe fruits underpinned by a touch of smoke and spice. The smooth attack gives way to a full-bodied, elegant palate. Serve alongside feathered game, pheasant, deer, wild boar, or veal sweetbreads.

Reviews

Bright, saturated medium red. Knockout perfume of cranberry, pomegranate, raspberry, and white pepper. Vividly high-pitched and fine-grained in the mouth, with its penetrating, floral red fruit flavors accented by pungent crushed-stone minerality. Delivers outstanding intensity without weight, not to mention superb inner-mouth tension and saline complexity. This fabulously perfumed wine finishes with a terrific rising length. This wine may not have the volume or power of the Combe d'Orveau but I suspect it will dance on its sibling's grave. ~93-95 Vinous Media
