About the Wine
If you’ve ever been to Lisbon or Porto, you already know—Portugal has a rhythm all its own. Sunlight, sea air, and slow meals that stretch into the night.
Nestled in the hills of Alenquer, in the heart of the Lisboa coastal region, Quinta do Pinto spans over 120 hectares of vineyards and a historic manor where wine has been made for centuries. Today, the Pinto family continues that legacy with a clear purpose: to craft wines of genuine character—rooted in their land, expressive of their climate, and offered at honest value.
Quinta do Pinto is a family-owned estate currently led by Rita Cardoso Pinto, who oversees the project with her sister Ana. Though originally founded by their father, António Afonso Lasso de la Vega Cardoso Pinto, the estate has evolved under the sisters’ direction into one of the standout female-led wineries in Portugal. Their vision combines tradition with innovation — producing elegant, terroir-driven wines that honor the land’s history while embracing modern craftsmanship.
Alenquer, just north of Lisbon and shielded by the Serra de Montejunto hills, enjoys the perfect blend of Atlantic freshness and southern warmth. That balance gives this wine both lift and depth—vibrant fruit wrapped in smooth, polished richness.
Blending Portugal’s native grapes with a touch of the international—Touriga Nacional, Petit Verdot and Merlot—this wine is bold yet refined. It’s big enough for a steak, yet smooth enough to enjoy on its own.
The vinification process involved careful vineyard management to optimize the aromatic potential of the grapes.
Harvesting was done manually, followed by the selection of the best clusters upon entry into the cellar.
Aged in French oak barrels for twelve months. It presents a rich aromatic bouquet, full-body and velvety texture with a long finish. We recommend to pair this wine with refined cuisine.
Tasting Notes
This wine is a blend of several grape varieties of Touriga Nacional, Petit Verdot and Merlot.
Intense ruby color, in the aroma, ripe red fruit notes stand out, especially plum compote. Dark chocolate and toasty notes from barrel aging are also notable.
On the palate, dark chocolate again shines through, accompanied by ripe red fruits, providing an excellent texture. The lively and silky tannins give great longevity to the wine, which finishes in a fine and elegant manner.
Critic Reviews
The 2016 Estate Collection red is mostly a blend of Touriga Nacional, Petit Verdot and Merlot. Aged for 12 months in used French barriques and concrete tanks. It comes in at 14.6% alcohol. Showing plenty of fruit concentration, it still seems light in the mid-palate in terms of mouthfeel. Overall, this is still a little tight, although not unapproachable. Come back next year for better results. In fact, it won't be released until the end of 2022 or early 2023. There were 22,666 bottles produced. ~ Robert Parker
