About The Wine

Chateau Talbot is one of the most famous estates in Médoc and certainly one of the best values in Saint-Julien. Bordering with the Pauillac appellation, this historic Chateaux dates from the 15th century when it belonged to the Marquis de Aux.

Since the 20th Century, this beautiful Chateaux has been the property of the Cordier family, an important Bordeaux negociant. Today, Nancy Bignon Cordier is leading this project with great respect for the land and wines. Chateaux Talbot is one of the largest estates in all Bordeaux with approximately 250 acres of vineyards. It has been classified as a 4th Growth since the 1855 Grand Cru classification.

The 40+-year-old vines produce high-quality wines thanks to the spectacular terroir with soils composed of fine gravel, the supervision of rockstar Eric Boissenot, and the work and passion of everyone involved.

At Chateau Talbot, they perfectly combine both the past and the future; respect for tradition and technological evolution live in perfect harmony. The outcome of the combination of techniques, soil, and the people who passionately work it, is wines loaded with character, harmonious, and complex with the promise of beneficial longevity.

Second wines are some of the best buys Bordeaux has to offer. Wines that hail from some of the most prized vineyards in the world, crafted by the best, most innovative winemaking teams out there. But, (the best part) they sell at a fraction of the price that the Grand Vin. Connétable Talbot is considered one of the best Second Wines in all of the Médoc area.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

Dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, delicate edge lightening. Some dried fruit and cassis, ripe fig fruit, nuances of cocoa, subtle herbal spice. Medium body, black berry fruit like blackberries, sweet texture, integrated tannins, elegant and fresh, noticeably more lively on the palate than in the bouquet, versatile. ~92 Falstaff

An exceptional 2nd wine, showing the progress of Talbot in recent years. Straight on the aromatics you get sweet fruit, blueberry and cassis, plenty of pomegrantage, roses and orange peel, fresh acidities and a mouthwatering finish, still young, but bright with cocoa bean and a sleek, attractive edge of slate and mint. Director Jean-Michel Laporte in his second year at the estate, no new oak for ageing. Gorgeous balance, absolutely one to look out for. ~92 Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux

So much sweet tobacco and currant on the nose here, following through to a full body with relatively soft tannins for the appellation. Berry and dark-chocolate character to this. Round tannins. Needs three or four years to soften. Second wine of Talbot. Try after 2024. ~92 James Suckling

Solidly built, showing plum and cassis notes laced with an anise hint, while singed apple wood pervades on the finish, which also features a late twinge of tar. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2031. 19,166 cases made, 833 cases imported. ~90 Wine Spectator
