About the Wine

Barolo, often called the “King of Wines,” is known for its incredible aging potential, and this bottle is no exception.

This wine comes from one of the most revered regions in the wine world: the Piedmont, specifically from La Morra and Bussia in Monforte d'Alba, an area so remarkable that UNESCO has recognized it as "an exceptional living testimony to the historical tradition of grape growing and winemaking processes."

The Pecchenino family has been making wine here for generations, starting with Attilio Pecchenino back in the late 20th century. Over time, the estate grew from just 8 hectares to a thriving 35 hectares across the iconic Barolo region. Today, Orlando and Attilio Pecchenino continue their grandfather’s work, crafting wines that showcase the best of Barolo. And with the fourth generation, led by Orlando’s daughter Lisa, the winery is carrying its rich history into the future.

Barolo is known for its complex, age-worthy wines. The family’s vineyards in Bussia are located in some of the region’s best land—southwest-facing slopes with calcareous-clay soils, perfect for Nebbiolo. These soils, combined with careful vineyard practices, create wines with depth, complexity, and structure.

This wine is made with Nebbiolo grapes from the Corsini locality, a prized spot within the Bussia MGA. After hand-picking, the grapes are gently fermented in steel tanks, using the traditional submerged cap method that enhances the wine’s color and flavor. It’s then aged in oak casks to build the structure and elegance Barolo is known for.

What makes this wine stand out is how it balances tradition with the Pecchenino family’s commitment to sustainability. Their vineyards are carefully managed, focusing on organic practices and minimal intervention to let the land shine through in every bottle. This dedication to quality is clear from the very first taste.

2019 was an outstanding year for Piedmont. Wine Spectator blessed this year with a 97 point review and said: "Barolos are structured, balanced and built for aging."

Tasting Notes

100% Nebbiolo. Intense garnet red colour. The nose, initially austere, recalls complex floral and red fruit notes, liquorice, spice and tobacco. The palate is fine with sensations of ripe red fruits. The taut and compact tannin makes the wine very classic. Vibrant and vertical acidity. Extremely elegant and refined.

Reviews

Tasted about three weeks after bottling, the Pecchenino 2019 Barolo Bussia opens to a beautiful ruby color that shines from inside the glass. There is a subtle note of candied cherry or fragrant rose, but once that lifts, the wine reverts to characteristic Nebbiolo aromas of tar, licorice and blood orange. Bussia delivers a classic progression of aromas that are elegantly reinforced by the extra intensity and concentration of the 2019 vintage. Production is 4,500 bottles. ~94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Juicy and chewy with licorice, sweet berry and cedar with hints of asphalt. It’s medium-bodied. Flavorful at the end. Drink after 2026. ~93 James Suckling
