About the Wine

Anyone who knows and loves Nebbiolo would be fortunate to have the single vineyard Vietti wines in their cellar. Compared to the top wines from France, these wines are bargains.

“Vietti makes some of the cleanest, most terroir-driven wines in Piedmont, with a rare subtlety and elegance.” ~Wine Spectator.

Vietti Winery has been a watershed in the history of Italian wine. Forbes spoke about this flagship estate saying that it has been instrumental when it comes to enlightening the world with a deeper understanding of the various cru vineyards that exist in Piedmont, Italy.” They also called it one of the “25 best Barolo producers.” To learn more about this amazing grape and the wines from it, click here.

The story started in 1800 with Carlo Vietti, but it was until 1960 that the winery took a 180º turn when Luciana Vietti married recognized winemaker Alfredo Currado. Alfredo made important improvements in the vineyard and the cellar. Vietti was one of the first wineries to ever produce a single vineyard Barolo.

Today, the winery is managed by Luca Currado and his wife Elena. Luca is an extremely talented winemaker. After gaining expertise working in renowned wineries like Simi Winery, Opus One, and Mouton-Rothschild, he went back to the family estate and continued his journey. Today, he’s recognized as one of the most talented winemakers in all of Italy, and his wines are known for being “some of the very finest Italian wine labels.”

Vietti Ravera is an outstanding Barolo and one that wine lovers and wine critics adore. The previous vintage was awarded 100 points and was featured in Robb Report's "11 Perfect 100-Point Wines You Can Buy."

Aging: For 32 months in large oak casks. It was bottled without filtration.

Tasting Notes: 100% Nebbiolo. Intense garnet red color. Complex floral and fruity notes open in the glass after a little while. Hints of red fruit, mineral, and spicy nuances. Quite intense on the palate, with ripe red fruit sensations. Firm, compact tannins make this a very classic wine. Vibrant, vertical acidity. Extremely elegant and refined. Long-lasting aftertaste.

Reviews

The 2019 Barolo Ravera is the most intensely mineral and saline of the Barolos. Crushed rocks, white pepper, flowers, orange zest, red berry fruit, and bright acids all run through this finely sculpted, chiseled Barolo. Readers who enjoy Barolos of energy and tension will adore the Ravera. I have always had a soft spot for this Barolo. 2019 is another magnificent dimension of Vietti's dark horse, a wine that over the last 10-12 years has routinely challenged for the crown here, and often won! ~100 Vinous

Extremely multifaceted and complex, it shows a stratified and unique sensory dimension that gives emotions in the progressive red-black climax. Pink grapefruit notes blend with warm sensations of currants, raspberries, wild myrtle, white pepper, juniper berries, and bergamot. The secondary scene is filled with cinchona, rhubarb and wild strawberries. Full body, silky tannins, and a finish that shows an impressive quality of fruit, flower, and splendid aftertaste. Better since 2025. ~98 WinesCritic.com

This wine’s robust red cherry and berry flavors surge through taut, ferrous tannins, maintaining a cool elegance as the wine fleshes out with exposure to air. Girded by a tarry undertone, the flavors are impressively precise, the tannins finely chiseled, the aromas exuberant and fresh. ~96 Wine & Spirits

The oldest part of this vineyard was planted in 1935 but the average age is 34 years. It's located at 400 meters – Ravera is one of the highest MGAs within the communes of Barolo and Novello, which it straddles. This 2019 is intensely perfumed, with dried fruits soaked in blood orange, strawberry jam, and a suggestion of grace. The attack confirms this lightly extracted style, with ripe tannins, still sticky at the moment, and long, refreshing acidity leading to a good finish. ~92 Decanter
