About The Wine

There's a reason Tinto Pesquera is the first name most people learn when they discover Ribera del Duero. Alejandro Fernández didn't just build a winery here — he proved to the world that Spain's Tempranillo could stand alongside the greatest reds on earth. Robert Parker called his top cuvée the Pétrus of Spain. Suckling, Wine Spectator, and every major critic have followed suit for decades. This is the estate that made the entire region famous — and the Reserva is where it all comes together.

For the wine drinker who's graduated from easy-drinking reds and wants something with real substance, this is a perfect next step. Pesquera's Reserva has everything that makes collectors obsess over Ribera del Duero — concentration, structure, aging potential through 2037 — but it doesn't require a sommelier to enjoy. It's bold, generous, and immediately satisfying. Think of it as Spain's answer to the big, polished reds of Napa and Bordeaux — at a price point that still feels like a secret.

The 2020 is a stunning vintage. Both James Suckling and Wine Spectator scored it 92 points. It took Double Gold at SommCon. Only 850 cases were imported to the U.S. — and at this price, it's one of the most compelling values in serious Spanish wine right now. Wine Spectator says it will drink beautifully through 2037, but it's already showing real depth and complexity today.

100% Tempranillo from estate vineyards in Pesquera de Duero at over 800 metres elevation. The nose opens with ripe blackberry and black cherry, layered with nuances of nutmeg, sweet walnut, and a thread of fresh plum skin. On the palate this is full-bodied and tightly structured, with firm, sleek tannins that knit seamlessly through a dark core of blackberry confit, warm fig, herbed olive, and mocha. The acidity is bright and well-placed, keeping the generous fruit focused and juicy. The finish is long, mineral-driven, and compact — a wine that rewards patience but is already showing its depth. Best from 2027 through 2037.

A spicy and flavorful red that shows blackberry fruit, black cherries, nutmeg and sweet walnuts on the nose. It's full-bodied and well framed with tight-knit tannins. Compact. Drink from 2025. ~92 James Suckling

A fresh red, with the tang of plum skin–infused acidity layered with a dark core of blackberry confit, warm fig, herbed olive and mocha. Tightly meshed, integrating firm, sleek tannins that emerge on the minerally finish. Best from 2027 through 2037. 850 cases imported. ~92 Wine Spectator
