About The Wine

“Barolo is more than one of the world's great wines and a partner to one of Italy's most varied and refined cuisines. It's an evocative landscape of gently rolling hills covered by a quilt of vineyards and topped by medieval villages with winding cobblestone streets and views to the Alps.” ~ Wine Spectator.

The Boroli family is a well-known Piedmontese family of entrepreneurs. They have ventured into the textile industry, then into publishing, and since the early 90’s they also embarked on their adventure in wine.

It all started with Silvano and Elena Boroli, (who were living a hectic, busy life between the textile and the publishing industry) felt like they needed a quiet and peaceful place; a project that would connect them with their land, and most importantly, their passion of fine wine and food, and so the restaurant Locanda del Pilone was born. The couple turned their farmhouse (which had already some acres of vineyard planted) into a luxurious hotel and restaurant, that’s still operating to date. Fun fact: The restaurant achieved a Michelin star, and its wine menu features mainly Boroli wines.

However, something was missing for the Boroli family: To produce their own wines. In early 2000, the family’s wine dream began, and today, this artisanal winery is run by Silvano and Elena and his 4 sons.

The vineyards are located right in the heart of Barolo, in Castiglione Falletto (Cascina La Brunella) and Barolo (Borgata Cerequio), these regions host the most famous historic Barolo crus.

The winery itself it’s a work of art, an ode to the Barolo appellation. It was designed by architect Guido Boroli, (one of the 4 brothers) and features a unique landscape that oversees the vineyards. The design has been published in major architecture and design magazines as one of the best combinations between tradition and innovation.

In the vineyard, the work is flawless. The family is focused on extreme quality to produce unique Barolo wines, their mantra is “Good work in the vineyard is the Genesis of superior wines” and they reflect that in their high-quality Barolos. 2020 vintage delivers a Castiglione Falletto Barolo with old-school grace and a modern sense of clarity. Achille Boroli — who took the winemaking reins in 2012 after building the family's restaurant to a Michelin star — sources from three storied Castiglione parcels: Villero, Brunella, and Valentino. Vines are between 35 and 45 years old, grown on clay-limestone soils with a touch of sand, then aged 18 months in large neutral oak (1000–2500 liter casks) so the fruit and site can speak without barrel interference.

2020 vintage in Barolo brought a warm summer tempered by August and September temperature swings, producing wines that critics and the producer describe as classic, long-lived, and exceptionally drinkable. Only 5,000 bottles were made.

A fresh, vibrant bouquet opens with precise citrus notes of orange zest and grapefruit, layered with rose petals, dried herbs, and subtle mineral nuances.

The palate is powerful yet balanced, with a solid tannic structure framed by chalky minerality, crisp acidity, and a savory, persistent finish.

CRITIC REVIEWS

What the Critics Said

In a world where DJ beats reign supreme, this Barolo stands out like an acoustic guitar at an EDM festival – a refreshing change of pace that captivates with its elegance and refinement. The wine's core is a lush, fleshy medley of ripe fruits, with raspberries taking the lead, providing a solid foundation. The texture strums through the palate like fingerpicked notes, adding a touch of intrigue to the experience. This Barolo proves that even in a vintage celebrated for its richness, there's always room for a wine that strums its own chord delivering poise and grace in every sip. Drink Now. ~ 92 Wine Enthusiast

Highly extracted Barolo, yet well balanced. Intensely floral nose with remarkable sweet-violet aromas, as well as cinnamon and red fruits. Medium-bodied with firm, dusty yet crunchy tannins and refreshing acidity. Drink or hold. ~ 92 James Suckling

Bright and expressive, this red offers raspberry, cherry, floral and earth notes on an elegant frame. Balanced and silky, leaving a firm, juicy feel on the finish. Best from 2026 through 2039. 333 cases made, 65 cases imported. ~ 92 Wine Spectator
