About The Wine

Boschendal is one of South Africa's oldest wine estates — 340 years of winemaking tradition, with title deeds dated 1685.

Founded by French Huguenot refugee Jean le Long and nurtured through centuries by families who shaped the Cape's wine legacy, the estate sits between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch, where cooling Atlantic breezes preserve the natural acidity that gives Western Cape Pinot Noir its vibrancy.

The 1685 Collection honors that founding year with wines built for expressive fruit purity and varietal character. This Pinot Noir comes from vineyards that benefit from the region's cool maritime climate — the kind of temperate zone that lets the grape show its red-fruit spine without going soft or jammy.

Fermented in stainless steel to preserve the fresh fruit profile, then matured in French oak for subtle complexity. The result is a wine with good acid-balance, sweet fruit perception, and a soft finish of plum and caramel.

Aromatics of rosehip, potpourri, tobacco, and toasted brioche open to a voluptuous palate of ripe cherries, red and blackcurrant, clove, and all-spice. It drinks beautifully now, and over the next two to three years it'll shift toward forest floor and mushroom as the fresh fruit softens.
