About the Wine
Nestled in the heart of Burgundy, Château de Meursault is a living piece of history. With roots tracing back to the 11th century, the estate has long been a benchmark for exceptional Côte de Beaune wines. Today, under the Halley family's stewardship, the château continues its commitment to crafting expressive, terroir-driven wines.
This 2021 Savigny-lès-Beaune embodies the elegance of Burgundy. Sourced from several hilltop plots, the vines thrive in brown, stony soils that challenge the Pinot Noir grapes just enough to create depth and complexity. The cooler hillside location helps maintain freshness, ensuring a balanced yet structured wine.
Savigny-lès-Beaune is one of Burgundy’s most prolific appellations, just north of Beaune. The region’s gravel, limestone, and clay soils create wines that are softer than Pommard but more structured than Volnay. The valley’s south-facing slopes provide ideal sun exposure, allowing Pinot Noir to flourish. While not as widely recognized as some neighboring appellations, Savigny-lès-Beaune consistently delivers outstanding wines of character and value.
At Château de Meursault, winemaking is all about respecting the land and the fruit. The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted before undergoing a 15- to 18-day maceration and a 5- to 6-day fermentation. The wine then ages for 15 months in oak barrels—30% of which are new—developing its signature silky tannins and layered complexity.
Aging: Aged 15 months in a mix of new (30%) and used oak barrels, plus stainless steel vats.
Tasting Notes
100% Pinot Noir. This wine bursts with red fruit aromas, hints of spice, and a refined minerality that reflects its terroir. The palate is beautifully balanced, with a silky mouthfeel and flavors of ripe cherries, wild strawberries, and a touch of earthiness, leading to an elegant, lingering finish.
